I have not made it past chapter five because I keep restarting looking for that perfect character (or party).

I would have to say in my experience that the theif class is the most fun. The assasin or bounty hunter kits in particular. They provide some of the most commonly used skills and are fun to play.

Fighters are nice too but I prefer the theif personally.

Out of all the class, I prefer Kensai/mage. he has great fighting skill and over hundreds of magic to chose from. The idea for new tactics are endless. (I took out a red dragon in one on one with my kensai/mage)

i like being an Archer because you get all the ranger abilities and also five weapon proficiency points in long bow (as well as the bonus two hand weapon prof that you get if you are a ranger).

without my called shots i was dealing 30 points of damage to Firkragg each turn! believe me it kills him fast!

Although it isn't cheating, I find that a 'cheap' way to get rid of those liches.
It wouldn't satisfy me, if I would do that!
I'm playing a Barbarian now, and I like the way he can deal out blows, but that's all.
If I would start again, I think I would be an Archer, a Kensai or a Monk.
In ToB I'll defenitely be a monk as they are godlike then!

Over the course of BG, PT, IWD and BG2 I've played, fighters, clerics, barbarians, Paladins, Mages and Sorcerers. I always used to think that the fighters seemed to be the most fun - charge!!!

However, I'm beginning to think that Mages and Sorcerers are best simply for the variety you get. With a fighter all he does is - charge. Getting a lower thaco and armour class is nice but doesn't offer much variety. Whereas a mage has something like 200 spells to chose from. OK some of them are crap but at least it provides a bit more variety. From that perspective maybe I'll have to try a bard next time - fighting, thieving and magic up to level 40 in ToB could be fun. Most importantly, its a class I haven't tried yet.

From that perspective I guess I should try Druids, Monks and Thieves. Unfortunately none of those but the Monk really appeal.

Anyway, it just comes down to personal preference I guess. Some people I know used to play exactley the same type of character (even with similar stats) each time they played PnP.
