[IMG] So... any whip fans here? I'm back to playing HotU and I've been checking some things out, and Disarm that comes with the whips is a bit tempting (at least for one party member). But how often do you get to actually disarm opponents with it in reality? Is it worth it? And how does it work precisely? Their weapon appears in your inventory? Falls to the ground? What?

The manual says it basically gives you the Disarm feat, which means it's used whenever it's selected for use from the radial menu, and the weapon falls to the ground. It can be very useful in certain situations, but fighters will generally have enough Discipline to resist it (especially in HotU), and mages and clerics won't use weapons much anyway. It's only really useful against stealth classes with nasty weapons.

From what I know, AI doesn't pick up dropped weapons in single player but human players in PvP have sort of 100% chance because grabbing people's dropped weapons tends to be a bannable offence.

The bad thing about whip is that it takes an Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat to use and it does 1d2 base damage, so you'd be better off grabbing a normal weapon and the Disarm Feat, if you want to play around with Disarm. Also, doesn't dire flail provide the same disarm bonus? I don't remember...

I've tried it once in HoTU and I wasn't particularly impressed with it...especially when you have gold like Improved Knockdown and Called Shot! :D

The free disarm feat is nice. But the problem comes from it being a small weapon type. Which means you'll get a -4 penalty to disarm medium weapons and a -4 each catagory larger thereafter.

Can it be used in a two-weapon fighting? I mean like a sword in the main hand and a whip in the off-hand?

I think not, but I'm not 100% sure.

Whips in the game? And I thought this thread had promise....

Ah, well the only computer games where whips were pretty good was the lightning whip in the Ultima series and in Dungeon Keeper (both versions). The down side is just too great for use in Neverwinter Nights (except perhaps in a certain little fan made module).

But monsters in certain combat oriented modules using Whips can throw you off if you are a melee based build and don't have significant Discipline scores...Cleric builds come to mind...

Actually, you can equip an off-hand weapon. I played a Blackguard which had Deathcoil as main weapon and Aramil's Blade as off-hand and it worked superbly.

As for whips... they're good weapons, but I don't think they're quite worth it. They have low damage, and the disarm feat it grants isn't THAT great.
