Who was Gilgeam?

    [​IMG] I've been reading about the Forgotten Realms and during the Time of Troubles (where the gods walked the earth as avatars) A god called Gilgeam was killed by Tiamat the god-dragon in Unther. But now i've become curious; who was Gilgeam and what was his portfolio?

    (BTW In ToB there is a reference to his sidekick Shuruppak, who seamingly have lost his armor)

    Hmm I don't really know, but looks to me like he is derived from the king of Babylonia Gilgamesh who lived around 2700 BC. Shurrupak is the name of a sumerian city in mezopotamia whereas tiamat is a sumerian god.

    heh probably this has nothing to do with what you were asking, but hey, I think such stuff are fun to read about :)

    Wasn't Tiamat Babylonian? There was obviously wholesale borrowing from Sumer by Babylon, but I was under the impression that the Tiamat/Marduk thing was entirely Babylonian. I can't recall any sumerian tales in which Tiamat figured in. However, there are Sumerian versions of the Gilgamesh tales.

    Thank you evrybody, it was very interesting to read. Especially yours Invoker; i didnt know that those names were actually recycled ( :p ). But if anyone has the answer to my real question, please post it.
