Why can't Aerie get her wings back?

Talk about magical healing options on another forum has reminded me of something.
Why can't Aerie get her wings regenerated?
When you first meet her you are only level 7-12, but by the end of SoA you get access to very high level divine healing spells.
That includes Regeneration, which in P&P can restore lost limbs, Heal, and Greater Restoration.
Not to mention the potions of regeneration available for sale and that you find along the way.
I won't even get into Miracle, or the Arcane spells Limited Wish and Wish.

So even if Quayle and Aerie couldn't afford such a potion at first, you quickly gain enough gold to buy one.

It just never made sense that you couldn't restore Aerie's wings given the type of healing available to high level characters in AD&D. It's not like she was cursed by a god, high level fiend, or other being of godlike power.

Seems to me it would have been just too much work when it wasn't really accounted for in the 2nd ed. rules as far as I can tell. Maybe revising her sprite to include the wings would have been a hassle too.

If the games were ever adapted for the Pathfinder rules set, it would be super easy to deal with. Bonus feat and along with it the +3 dodge bonus to AC.

She didn't get her wings back because she would have flew away after we had our 2 kids!

Actually, restoring lost limbs is accounted for in 2nd edition, but it takes high level healing spells. I can't recall if Greater Restoration does it, but regeneration does. I think heal does as well. I'll have to dig out the PHB from mom's basement.

Well, there's a practical reason too: if Aerie were allowed to regenerate her wings, then she ought to be able to fly, with full 3-D movement and over impassable obstacles and so on, which isn't achievable in the Infinity Engine - it's not a 3-D engine! So they just didn't allow the possibility of her wings regenerating.

(Certain creatures "floating" above the ground doesn't count - they still move only at a fixed height "above" the 2-D terrain, without 3-D movement, so they're merely equivalent to a creature walking along the ground on "invisible legs".)

They could've fixed that story wise, like she chose not to fly to help the protagonist on his/her quest or like a fledgeling wasn't able to use her wings yet as she just recovered them. There are a lots of options here to restore her wings.

And for the graphical part of it: the deva/planetar sprites have wings and the first level cleric spell Armor of Faith has the "spread you wings" animation. It couldn't have been that much trouble to incorporate a believable solution for this.
