Why do my fighters miss 98% the time?

Hi:
Has anybody come across the problem of fighter's missing 90% of the time during their attacks? How do I rememdy the problem? Even with the odds, the fighter still misses on all attack, is there a solution?

What is his stats/equipment anyways?

 

It could be due to his strength, or that hes using weapons hes not that well trained in.

 

my half orc fighter with 20 STR and weapon focus in weapon he was using missed most things at level 1. Once he levelled up the first couple of time he started to hit quite regularly.

Basically at level 1 all your characters are rubbish. Give it time and your characters should start kicking ass.

 

i have similar problem
my fighter has str 20, dex 19, specialized on greatsword, she is wearing the ?green? elven mail ..she misses ~50% the first hit ~90% the second hit
is it related to the power attack?? (i tuned to 8) or the monsters are get better (i am in temple lev 3) or she has bad luck??

 

Isn't power attack 8 = -8 on BaB? If it is then no wonder they miss so much...

 

Well just look at the statistics.
If your fighter has 20str and specialisation that means she has +6 to hit right away. + her current level.(which must be above 6th since you have 2 attacks/round). So she has at least 12 to hit with main attack and 7 with the second one.
But if you use power attack 8 (btw this should be improved power attack) that means she instantly looses 8 to hit and gains 8 to damage. So you try to hit the baddies with 4/-1. And with such an attack bonus its no wonder you cant hit anything. It may be nice to look at such damage dealt, but it doesnt matter if you cant land a blow.
The monsters have AC the same as you. And if they have around 20AC you need to have quite some luck to get 20+ to attack.(d20+4).

I suggest you disable power attack completely. See if you can hit stuff. Then gradualy increase it slowly again, until you're satisfied with the hit/damage ratio.
