Why is it so hard to find good Gnome portraits?

I have yet to find one I really like.

I usually end up settling for Monteron's portrait, or the guy with the green beret (although neither really fits my idea).

Anybody got a good 3rd party gnome portrait?

I don't like some of the elf or half orc portrait. The orcs look cuddly rather than menacing!

    @Klorox

I always visioned gnomes as having beards, so the two pictures you mentioned I always thought of as being halflings. To me the only portrait of a gnome in the whole game is the one Tiax uses in BG1. (Which is the with a gnome holding a pipe.)

Also, I was under the impression that female dwarves had beards, and that there were also female gnomes with beards, and there are no applicale pictures for these characters.

Gnomes dont always have beards. In many respects, they often dont. Gnomes are mostly known for balding, and having big noses. Also, Gnome females dont have beards. That's a trait solely residing with the dwarves, and is one of the major differences in the evolution of these two cloesely related species.

No one wants to play gnomes (gnomes came out as the least popular race in one of our polls), hence even less people would want to make portraits for them.

ACK! Are you serious? They are the only race that can multi-class a specialist mage! I love illusionist-thieves and illusionist-clerics. And Takara is going to go into severe depression when he sees this.

I'd take a Gnome Fighter/Illusionist over a Elf Fighter/Mage any day of the week, from a powergamers POV.

The Saving Throw bonus vs. spells easily beats a puny +1 to hit w/ swords and some resistance to sleep & charm. Plus, a Gnome gains an extra spell per level, which is very useful for a multi-classed caster.

ON EDIT: If anybody can direct me to a site with good Gnome portraits, I'd really appreciate it.

I also picture Gnomes with a goatee, or no facial hair. The big nose is a must. I find Gnomes, in PnP D&D one of the most entertaining races to roleplay, and I'd choose Gnome (or Dwarf, I love them too) almost any time over an Elf or 1/2 Elf.

Who want to play a Gnome? WHO'D WANT TO PLAY A GNOME? Well me for a start! And Aldeth and Klorox have hit it exactly right. Gnomes have many advantages in multi-class mages than any other race. The only reason that Gnomes are not chosen as much is the Bioware decision to neglect short races from the romance scene. If you could romance Mazzy in original BG2, then you would see a MUCH larger interest in this fun, and cool race. Being able to pick a specialist is a major benefit, as is the int bonus. Not everyone wants to play a tree hugger either, yet they seem to get showered with praise. :toofar:

    @ Klorox

Download my portrait pack from the SP downloads section. I have several gnome portraits taken from Neverwinter Nights, and a few other sources.

It's a doozy for a portrait pack (7mb), but I think you'll find something you like.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot, DR!

Are NWN portraits similar to BG portraits? I like the close ups concentrating on the face.

I cropped some them that way, yes. Most are that way, but others are slightly more zoomed out. But the color and resolution quality are high enough that you won't mind. Since they came from another bioware game, and since I saved them properly, they actually look like they belong in the game.

What do you expect? In BG2 as in real life, having a turnip obsession tends to cut down on your romantic options... ;)

    LoL!

My Gnome doesn't have a turnip obsession, his is geared towards chicks twice his height with stumps on their backs...

    Aerie is perfect!

my gnomes would be more into thin chicks twice their height with wings... But they never put in the option in a wish spell to restore her wings....
