I enjoyed reading last WC's thread here on sorcerers, so I was disappointed
to not find a similar thread here yet for the newest football world cup, so here it goes ^^.

It's nice that all four of my favourite Asian/Oceanic teams made it in:
Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Though I bet, only South Korea will make it to the 2nd round.

All my hopes are for my home country Germany obviously, but if they won't make it, I'm with one of the above four.

I watched both opening games today, which were a bit disappointing, both.
On top of that the everlasting sound of the Vuvuzelas is killing my nerves, who likes them anyway?

Tomorrow is the first game which will seem to be interesting: England vs USA.

    Well, it is a poll.
Moreover it deals with a rather specific question, and in my opinion it hinders a bit of a discussion with kind of a wider range of thoughts.
I mean you can talk only this much if you're excited about the WC or not.

    edit:
    @admins
I don't want to go on competition with a similar thread though, so feel free to close this one :)

I dunno, that thread is full of typical American opinion sharing. I think we should keep this one for actual world cup discussion.

South Korea wins 2:0, yeah !
And with fine football, good technique.

Now I'm curious about ENG vs USA.
The States aren't someone to be afraid of big names, so this could be good.

Took a little help from the opposition but the USA did manage to tie. :) Forgive my ignorance but now what? Do both teams move up?

My guess would be yes, because both other teams in the group, Algeria and Slowenia seem to be weaker.
But the next games will tell anyway :)

It will now basically go down to who scores the most goals against Algeria, Slovenia as to who will top the group. Topping the group is quite important to be honest, as whoever finishes 2nd will likely face Germany in the next round.... no thank you!

After watching most of the games so far, I start to understand why goalies don't like the Jabulani ball. It's just not the Green's gift to USA - Algerias goalie also allowed an easy long shot and other goalies have fumbled in similar situations. Especially bouncing shots seem to cause problems.

I expected a bit more heat. Some teams are just too scared to loose and won't take risks. Argentina and France disappointed. England vs USA was nice and so was Ghana. IMO, Slovenia - Algeria was the lousiest game until now, except for 2 not too very smart tricks Chezzal pulled out of his sleeve. That got me laughing for a while.

I expect a lot of the upcoming match: Germany - Australia. I'm not quite sure who I favour. I maybe the Aussies, but I don't mind the Germans winning.

The Germans were WAY too good for Australia. Even New Zealand almost beat Australia a few weeks ago.

Germany was great. Aussies tried en did their best, but just couldn't deal with the situation. Too bad. Deserved win for zee germanz. I thought the red card for Cahill a bit harsh, though. It surely was a yellow, but red was a bit too much, I think.
    Great game.

As for tomorrow: I have much sympathy for the Danes, but of course I hope Oranje wins. Danes will be tough and smart, I suppose. Lots of them play(ed) in Dutch competition and their trainer is familiar with our tactics and players.

One thing that would definitely improve the World Cup for me is if they'd collect all vuvuzelas, break them in two or more parts, gather the remains in one big heap, douse them in gasoline, and throw a match! :nolike:

Yeah, Germany did a nice match against Australia  4:0

And is it just me who thinks that those buzz-flutes that apparently are so eminently popular with the African fans are a bloody nuisance?

Buzz-flutes would be the vuvuzelas :p

Didn't get to see much of the Cup myself - probably won't, the way RL things are going these days...

Rags - you are too polite and reserved. Germany F***ing pounded the Aussies! Go Germany! :thumb:

And yes, those damn horns are annoying as all hell. :nono:

I'm looking forward to the US vs Slovenia game. I wonder how the US will fare against the Pink Dragon's team.
