Worth Playing?

I've played(and really enjoyed) the AD&D computer games. But is it really worth playing PnP dungeons and dragons when you can play the computer games. Basically what I am asking; is dungeons and dragons fun and should I start playing?

 

The answer to both of your questions can probably be determined by whom you will be playing with.

 

personally I find cprg rather boring and extremely limiting after starting rpg'ing. But as C'Jakob said, very much depends on the people

 

It is most definitly worth playing. Much more interesting than CRPG's, assuming, of course, that you have the right group

 

If you've got a nice group with a good GM, hell yes. Way better than CRPGs.

 

Can ypu play online?

 

i've played lots online. The main difference that online you're more precise as to what your character does (with this I mean, instead of saying my character does this and this, you would get to read the actions as in a book without some saying what they do). Since everything (mostly) is ic when playing online.

 

The social aspect of playing PnP is a big reason to play it.
The total freedom of how you play and wath you let your character do (or at least try) another. Personally I use CRPG to satisfy my craving between games

 

Same here. CRPGs are great, but they are also limited by their programming. For example, in a PnP game, you could have a nimble thief roll between a troll's legs and stab it in the back, then light it on fire with lantern oil. Doesn't happen a lot, I've found, in CRPGs.

 

I would say if you have a good imagniation and lots of creativity, it is really fun, or at least makes the game better...

 

PnP beats CRPG's every time. But like others above said, you have to have a decent group of people playing. One hyperactive idiot or one attention hog CAN (not will) ruin it. If everyone is new, you want the most creative AND stable person in your group to be the DM. A bad DM makes for a bad game, no matter the quality of the players. But the absolutely most important thing to remember is to have fun, not get so serious about the game that it affects your relationship with the other players.

And a good place to play onling is at www.roleplayinggames.net. I found this site from a link there. They play D&D (2E and 3E) and Star Wars (d6 and d20) there. Plus the owner is getting ready to expand into other games such as d20Modern, Superheroes, White Wolf, etc...

 

Yeah, it really depends who you are playing with
Powerplayers:"I attack the goblins"
or Real players "I hear the sounds of battle around me, then i'm slowly lifting my sword praying to my god and attack"
Avoid powerplayers.
