Wow, Female PCs really get the heel in the romance department

I like Baldur's Gate. I really like playing it, and most of the characters are enjoyable and there's really no difference between female and male PCs, until it comes to romance.

I shouldn't really complain about such a trifling matter, but I actually like romance-related dialogs that the player can explore and choose or decide. The males get Jaheira, Viconia, and Aerie, who puts out with the right words!

The girls get Anomen. Who gives you a flower.

Even the mods are really unsatisfying. The sheer amount of romanceable female NPCs outnumber the romanceable male NPCs. Heck, I've found Imoen and Nalia romanceble mods, but none for any of the actual BGII NPCs. I've tried looking for a Haer'Dalis romance mod, who was supposedly to be the female PC's other choice, but none are found. Heck, even Jan Jansen looks good right now!

So, anyone know where can I find romanceble male NPCs? I've got Tsujatha and Soluafein and... That's about it. :(

You could get Kelsey or Xan here

But I tend to agree with you, still I'm biased towards femmes. But thats just me :p

Oh wow, Xan! I loved that guy in BG1. :) Thanks! I was unaware you could get him.

He's quite new as an NPC mod! Bless the guys at PPG. Doesn't we just love him?

I've never tried Kelsey, but I think there's a lot out there using him - perhaps romancing him too?

    Good luck

It's currently in production at a modding site.

I might also suggest Beyond the Law for an NPC-NPC romance, or perhaps tweaking Nathaniel (gay male). Both can be found at the place Shaitan linked.

    EDIT:
Another thing I just thought of: If you get BG1Tutu, you can get romances for a few BG1 NPCs by downloading the BG1NPC Project at G3. Included is a romance for Xan, which can then be continued for a different romantic experience with him in BG2. 3 for 1! :D

Aye, I'm also eagerly awaiting it for my 'Canon' party with a half-elven female F/C. It's over at G3 as well if you want to check out the forum.

Also, Kivan is another on the list Shaitan posted who can be romanced. And if you're in the mood for a look at some Thayvian prowess, Edwin's Romance over at SHS could be for you. ;)

If you look around even more, you'll find about a half-dozen mods in construction that are designed for a male NPC to romance your female PC. I guess they just take a bit more time to make. :xx:

In case no one realised ... but HOW MANY gurlz do you think actually play this game! I think the creators did it for a reason, because of the insanely crazy ratio of guy to girl players, they made more female romances.

Now don't get me wrong, i've played a female character before BUT when I did I would never romance, purely because of the fact that it's just crazy. You're a male playing as a female character who is to romance a guy ... ewww! It just doesn't work for me! And it's not just the fact that Anomen is the only guy to romance, it's just the concept of it all! And I'm pretty sure alot of otha people think the exact same thing.

That's the reason there isn't many female to male romances! BECAUSE, if you're a guy, who wants to be a female with guys tellin you things ... eww! :D

I've heard good things about the Tsujatha mod. Apparently he's an elven necromancer who will only romance good aligned female PCs. A well written mod, or so I hear.

Hmm, seems that while men have an overwhelming number of cleric ladies to choose from, women like their wizards: There's Kelsey, Xan, Edwin (is that finished yet?) and Tsujatha. Guess a frontliner must be the most popular type of PC, leaving slots open for romanceable support characters.

I've gone through Anomen's romance with a female character. I wanted to see everything there was to see in the game, including the one female romance. Don't worry, Silvershield; you don't spontaneously become homosexual from sitting through it, any more than you get cooties from touching girls.

So, yeah, there are far more males who play these games than females, but they could at least have made the one romantic interest for female characters a decent one.

An elven necromancer who will only romance good aligned female PCs? Aren't necromancers supposed to be evil?? Well anyways I might try it out just to see if it's good because I just started playin a girl again after I read this! Did you get it from the Infinity Engine Modlist from the link here?

Wasn't ther a poll some time ago, wich indicated about 10 % of all players here were girls? So IMHO it's not that scarce with girls here...

Nope, not imo. :) . Tsujatha is NE. He's really the 'bad boy' of romances. You sort of redeem him by suggesting he not randomly kill people. He puts his like/love for the PC ahead of his evil tendencies. :thumb:

You should be asking yourself, 'Since when can elves be necromancers?'

Yeah, female (or males who like playing female PCs) get shafted for romance in BG2. Kesley and Tsuajtha are the best (imo) of mod romances for ladies because they are the most normal; a problem or two (familial or the ex returns) but not an emotional limpet unable to put on his/her boots without a passive-aggressive speech whining on about the old pair of boots. Geesh!

And Solaufein? He can be romanceable for girls too.

Try finding a gay male mod! :D There's...one. Well, two if you count Solaufein, but I don't trust those switch-hitters... ;)

I've done all the Bioware romances, and even the straight guys get shafted, IMO. Viconia's the only one I find really interesting. Jaheira is insufferable, Aerie is EXTREMELY high maintenance AND a whiner, and Anomen is just plain awful. I'm giving Kelsey a try on my next run-through...I've heard good things.

Alternatively, we could all remember that is a fantasy role playing game with swords and dragons, not a Mills and Boon lovey-dovey novel. The quality or quantity of romanceable NPCs is hardly that big a deal. If that's what you really want, play The Sims (or that Playboy Mansion game.....)

No. if one of the romances was gonna do this it'd be Aerie. She stops whining eventually and actually becomes really decent but it's so far into her romance that it's no wonder that some really don't like her. And Sleeping with her is little real redemption because it screws up the romance, though you do still get to pick it up in ToB at least.

The Sims is an entirely different game from BGII. It's really not possible to go out on adventures and quests. Woohoo! I got a promotion! Woohoo! I got eight kids!

I like the Sims, but what I want to play is an adventure game with decent romantic elements - I'm not playing the game solely for the romance, but I do want my character to have a relationship with the NPCs.
