I'm soloing with a F/T/M and I just hit my XP cap. Can you remove it? If so is it cheating? If not, how do I go about removing it?

    thanks, D.B.

Yes you can remove the cap, rather easily too. Some folks will say it's cheating and some may not. I say it is cheating, but in the case of soloing I've always removed the cap. So go ahead, it's more fun that way. But it's up to you, and if you feel bad about cheating, crank up the difficulty level. Anyway, you can get a cap remover right here: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_editors.php

[IMG] i'm soloing a f/t. I want to remove the cap but if i choose to start a new game with the cap can i do this. Basically, are they all permanant cap removers or can you get some that can be toggled depending on how the mood takes you for a given party??

Also, would i have to get those patches containing the higher level rules??

Ok. I'm gonna remove the patch because I'm only at Cloakwoods and I've already hit cap. which one is the best. Is the VB6 one the best?

I've removed it for soloing with godlike VB6 version. It works fine. You can chose between the versions of BG (Dx7 patch or not).
At BG2 you can remove the xpcap easily with hexediting. You just have to search for ASCII "xpcap" in BGmain.exe and change the x to another letter. (from Matthew Avent)
I don't know if it works here too.

Its been awhile, and I mean awhile, since I played Dungeons & Dragons on paper with a group of friends. But if I remember correctly, there is no XP cap whatsoever, right? I mean you can go as far as you can?
So if this is the case, why is removing the cap on a computer game cheating? Seems to me like your just playing the same thing, only using a different medium.

I agree. I think an XP cap is a dumb idea. What's the point of it? Anyway, I removed it and it worked fine with the VB6, but none of the others worked. Wrong version or something like that. I really should download the patch for it, then the ring of Wizardry is there again(I've got, like the only version that it isn't there.

The reason for the cap is that those levels are what the game was designed for.

In P&P, there are modules designed for specific levels as well, but you also have a DM who can design your game based on your skill and power.

In a computer game it is designed for specific levels, so removing the cap is circumventing the built-in challenge of the game and IMO is no different than using any of the other cheats to make your game easier.
