[IMG] I wonder if you've noticed, but guess who got criticized for indecent behavior in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Here's a hint: ends in "hmadinejad."

    Seriously, check this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6619077.stm

Must be hard to make the perfect morals law, I guess. Still, when even the president of the republic and noted conservative can't cope, it's getting a little too good.

lol - that guy's almost a progressive by Iran standards it sounds. Allowing women to watch football - who would've thought that such a forward thinking person would have made it as President of Iran...

Iran really isn't that conservative. Nothing like our friends the Saudis.

Not that there aren't conservative factions in Iran, mind.

The difference, I guess, is that in Iran the religious leaders are in power, while in S. Arabia - and elsewhere, let's be honest - they are simply "giving advice" to the powerholders and acting as a "grassroots" power imo.

Of course, they have great influence in Riyadh and elsewhere, but if they had a position similar to the Ayatollahs in Iran, things would be much worse.

'course, it's worth keeping in mind that Iran is a much nicer place to live than SA. Even with the nutters having as much power as they do.

Isn't this kind of like trying to decide if you want to live in the sixth or seventh circle of hell?

I think the moral police is right to be concerned about the perils of kissing a Lady's hand. I say, proceed with caution Mahmoud.

Last time I did that, the Lady in question grew fiercely determined to sleep with me. The rest of the evening was most exausting, as she apparently felt she needed to make me drunk first. I was already insufficiently articulate at that point, and unable to clear up that misunderstanding.
Insofar, it is entirely understable for me why they prohibit alcohole in Iran as well. Seeing that I didn't grew any wiser, I understand the idea can emerge that people need to be protected from themselves, and others preying on them.

Yeah, you give women an inch they'll take a mile. First it's just football and gloved-hand-kissing and next thing you know it they're voting and running the country!

It is if your knowledge of Iran is limited to 'it's run by mad mullahs' :p
