    Has anyone ever been waylaid by the scripted vampire ambushes in the Temple area of Athkatla?

    As an aside, I find it humorous that Valen is able to give my party the message from her mistress during daylight hours.

    -Nope.

    -it's been mentioned that Vampires in BG2 can actually survive in daylight, since Dace was seen in the day; Mook says, "There he is. He looks different at night. Kind of creepy".
    So I'd assume either Vampires can go about their business in the day if they wear thick clothing and hoods, like Valen does, or they just lose all their abilities in the day.

    kuemper - yes, I've been attacked by a group of Vamps in the Temple District many times. It usually happens after Aran tells me to go destroy the rival guild...but I never actually go off and do it right away. By that point in the game, my party is usually strong enough to do the Umar Hills/Temple Ruins, Trademeet/Druid Grove, and the Windspear Hills quests.

    I remember the first time the vamps spawned on me. I has just cleared out the Unseeing Eye lair, and was on my way back to the temple to report my success and to heal my party up (we got beaten up pretty badly in the fights and ran out of healing potions and spells), and as soon as I came out of the sewers the vamps leapt on my party. Yoshi was carring the Daystar, so the Sunray he casted helped a lot, but Aeire and Nallia both got charmed, and eventually, my PC got axed. Two reloads later I managed to win the fight without any party members being charmed or dieing. :D

    IIRC, they'll aslo spawn in the Docks District, near the upper left entrance to the District. :rolling:

    Never happened to me before. It hasn't happened in the government or graveyard or city gate either. For me, they usually spawn at the same places where ruffians spawn.

    According to our vampire-lore, they can move around during the day. Bram Stoker´s Dracula can. It all really depends on who you ask. Basically all countries in the world has a myth about a vampire-ish creature/person/whatever, and they are all as different. I believe the Turkish version of a vampire(can´t remember the name) is allergic to wood, just like an "ordinary" vampire can´t stand garlic.

    I D&D vampires aren't killed by the light, they suffer from it like orcs and underdark creatures do though. They lose most of their abilities.

    There's your facts :) without the bulky "Lore". Wearing a hood/etc. does not protect them from this penalty either. If they are outside in the daylight they are affected by it, losing thac0, armor, spell-like abliities and more iirc. The light makes them very easy to kill actually. Facing them at night is just plain dumb, when you can fight them during the day :) .

    There's a series of several vampire encounters, so you're probably just seeing one that you haven't gotten to before. Possibly as a result of getting to Chapter 3 early and doing other stuff instead of jetting off to Spellhold as quickly as you can.

    About Valen is there any kind of proof that she is a vampire? It's not uinlogic that she might be a human.

    Interesting subject!

    @Stardust

    I can say Valen is a vampire. Two facts confirm this, when you go to Brynlaw, a trio of vampires ambush you, and one of them is named Valen, though this time she looks like a real, complete vampire. Other fact, there is Valen NPC mod, and she is a real vampire, with Fighter and Thief classes, plus all vampiric powers. So I guess Valen is a vampire, and vampires can stand in the daylight if they have protected themselves, either magically, or by bulky or protective/special clothing. This also happens a lot in Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show, vampires can survive the daylight via a black, cloak/hood, though the moment they are stripped of it, they are dusted.

    @Yulaw9460

    Turkish vampires? Well, I am a Turk and I have never ever heard about Turkish vampires before. You did piqued my interest.

    Anyway, I was travelling in world map, and got ambushed by three Ancient Vampires and a Smarter Lich (then I was ambushed by a red dragon shortly after), it was daylight, so vampires immediately turned to bat and flew away before I was able to lift a finger, and I had to battle the lich. Lucky I was high level and was able to destroy the fiend. So I guess normal vampires will just turn in to bats in a cloud and fly away if they are encountered in daylight.

    Wanna try this? Simply have a night ambush with vampires, pause your game, CTRL+T a few times, sun will rise instantly and you will see what vampires will do. Worth a try! Please tell me the results! I am curious.

    Well, since you asked... There are a group of vampires attacking you as you step off the boat in Brynnlaw. This only happens if you side with the Shadow Thieves, mind you. One of these vampires is named Valen.
    Coincidence? Maybe. Perhaps Bodhi has two servants called Valen. The Valen who contacts you isn´t one of those booty-shakin´ bellydancers. The Valen attacking you in Brynnlaw is. My guess? They´re the same. Valen has a part time job as an exotic dancer and got yanked off stage to go and kill the protagonist in Brynnlaw. No time to get picky about the wardrobe.

    Minor edit:
    Ahh Silverstar, you beat me to it, it seems.
    Okay, about Turkish vampires... can´t really remember what country it was. I seem to remember it as being Turkish...
    And the thing about vampires in BGII in daylight. They turn into a gaseous vapor if you rest until daytime when they have spawned and are moving towards you. I don´t know if they´ll come back if you wait until nighttime...

    I've never met the vampires in the Temple District. Encountered them in other parts of the city at night, but never in the Temple area.

    @Clixby:

    That would be Lassal that Mook describes. Dace is the vampire in the Asylum.

    Haven't thought about the names of the vampires at the boat.

    But as for myths about vampires it depands on who you ask I ahve played a lot of WoD (world of darkness). There vampires die intantly with contact of sunlight but is not harmed by garlic or silver for example. But a normal bullet though the head would kill them.

    There are a lot of myths about vampires and because of that nobody can judge whats right thats the funny thing about vampires there are few sterotypes.

    I went to the graveyard district after the underdark and of course it was night out and Bodhi gave me a welcoming party, BUT... I had hit sleep the second I landed it she came out quickly in the daylight and ran off when the vampires spawned they either:

    #1 all died instantly from isntant kill weapons (I don't think I have 6... the Axe, the Mace... I had 2) or

    #2 the daylight made them blow up/turn into bats ('cause there were bats flying in circles around my parties heads).
