List your top 10 rpgs with explanations if you want.

    10. 7th Saga - What an interesting world! The thing that holds this game back from a higher spot is that the power of enemies increases exponentially and there is really no way to keep up no matter how much you level up.

    9. Final Fantasy 6 - A step down from its predecessor (4) but still good.

    8. Final Fantasy Tactics - Great strategy game! Would be higher but the story is really hard to follow due to poor translation.

    7. Stone Prophet - Yes! Old school AD&D DOS game! Very cool egyptian setting. Anyone else remember the singing statue (the stone prophet)? She sang such a beautiful song!

    6. Ogre Battle - The original. Some of the most interesting characters I have ever seen are in this game, such as Deneb the witch and Rashidi.

    5. Shining Force 2 - Observe how great a simple story can be! The enemies and characters are all very intersting as is the larger conxtext of the story. A wonderful game. The Phoneix is awesome!

    4. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons - What a hidden gem! This is a Role playing game in the truest sense of the word! Sail the world and discovery new lands, or build a giant armada and terrorize the seas!

    4. Ogre Battle 64 - Complete freedom to customize an entire army! Improved enemy AI (from the original) make this game a great strategy game.

    3. Baldur's Gate 2 - A great RPG. Great interaction, great characters and a great story.

    2. Final Fantasy 4 - What a solid game. When you finish it, it leaves a few issues unresolved and you forces you to think about the game long after you've put the controller down. The overworld theme of FF4 is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.

    1. Valkyrie Profile - A truly unique and all around beautiful game. The music is superb, as is the artwork. The lead character, Lenneth Valkyrie, is the most interesting character I've have ever seen in a game (her voice is absolutely mesmerizing :D ). The "A" (good) ending will take your breath away.

I still need to try out Xenogears and the Lunar series so this list is by no means complete ;) .

1- Final Fantasy X: Just so unbelievably brilliant. It makes even great RPGs such as BG2 look like tiny, rubbish mini-games in comparison. And the atmosphere is almost unbeatable too.

2- Final Fantasy VII: Wonderful. My first Playstation game. Been playing it for nearly 6 years and i'm still not bored of it.

3- Final Fantasy VIII: Excellent. Such a lovely, calming, soothing atmosphere.

4- Final Fantasy IX: FF returns to its Fantasy roots. I loved it.

5- Suikoden II: Classy Japanese, Manga RPG. With a hint of Strategy.

6- Dark Cloud: Dungeons can drag on a nit, but the world building makes up for this.

7- Final Fantasy VI: Very, very nice. And it comes with a free FFX demo! :D

8- Grandia: Lovely, funny and relaxing gameplay.

9- Koudelka: Gothic and sometimes scary RPG. Could have been better, but still an excellent game.

10- Grandia 2: A nice RPG, but no where near as good as the original.

Sorry for not putting in any D&D CRPGs, but they just don't compare to console RPGs.

    9) NWN - A good game, in it's own way.

    8) BG1 - it's alright, but to be desired for.

    7) IWD1 - Cool, ice cool ;)

    6) PST - Play it, you'll see

    5) IWD2 - I like this game, I don't know how people can go on about how bad it is.

    4) BG2 - Brill game :thumb:

    3) Creature Isle - B&W Expansion, quite good, but not as good.

    2) Black and White - Excellent game, everything relies upon your actions.

Well I knew I forgot something.

Xenogears was good, but if I have to take something away because of Seiken Densetsu 3, then that'll have to go.

No offense but you can't be serious, Tarsakh. Dungeon Siege?
First, there is no story in the game.
Second, the character building part is passive. We don't have control on how we want to develop our characters. It might sound realistic and reasonable but for the sake of playing game, this is not fun at all. Comparing with the character development Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege looks a game for 3 years old.
Third, what's the difference between a archer and a melee fighter in the DS? Nothing. Archer don't have special moves and melee fighter don't do whirlwind. From start to end, a melee fighter is doing nothing but purely hack and slash. Compare it with Diablo's Barbarian you will see a huge difference in what is fun and what is boring.
Forth, don't you think that there is a serious lack in spells department?
i anticipated Dungeon Siege like a 7 years old waiting for the first X'mas present. Disappointment and disappointment mades me wish i had just bought the pirated version of the game.

Ok, back to the topic, top 5 in no order
    XuanYuan Sword Expansion
    Baldur's Gate (which includes 1 & exp, 2 & exp)
    Final Fantasy 7
    Divine Divinity
Might and Magic 5 or 6 (i forget which one)
i cannot come out with 10, in fact Divine Divinity just barely squeezed in.

Ok. I'm not smart enough, nor hardcore enough, to list 10 rpgs.

Needless to say, Icewind Dale is (in all likelyhood) my #1 pick.

I thought Dungeon Siege had/has some very good aspects. I enjoyed playing the few hours I had with it. One of these days, when I get the time, I seriously intend to finish the game. I got to like, the last quarter of the game, and either started playing Thief 2, or the computer crashed. I forget.

Anyways, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Fallout 1. Planescape Torment. Bard's Tale 2. Ultima 4, and I believe 3 (I have a vague recollection of playing it, and I think I liked the manual or the in-game story behind it; my Apple IIe days are blurry on a few games).

    Um.

Good Lord. Keef the Thief. Only Christ knows how many hours I played that one. Either pulling clothes off girls, listening to the music, or leveling up my skills.

That's about all I can come up with in 3 minutes...

[edit: Diablo1. And aspects of Diablo2.]
