TEMPLE OF HELM QUESTS

Sir Sarles

Now I head over to the Temple of Helm in the Temple District. I speak with Watcher Telwyn, who wants me to convince an artist named Sir Sarles to craft a work of art for the temple.

Sir Sarles is in the Jystev Estate, towards the southeast corner of the Government District. He insists on 200 pounds of Illithium and nothing less.

Next I head over to Waukeen's Promenade and rest up until it's day. The reason for this is that the person I speak to keeps shop only during the day. Jerlia, an Ore Merchant, can be found on the far west side of the Promenade. There are two possibilities here. One is trying to fool Sir Sarles with a fake alloy. Another is to speak with her source, Unger Hilldark, in the Copper Coronet. I fully explore both possibilities during dialogue to derive the maximum benefit.

I then try to pass off the alloy to Sir Sarles, except Keldorn calls me on it. But even were it not for Keldorn, Sir Sarles would have noticed anyway. Sir Sarles becomes angry and leaves in a huff and puff.

I then report back to the Temple. I get 10,000xp and the Helm of Glory (+1 armor class, +1 Charisma), which Keldorn wears for now. The xp bonus isn't as high as it would have been had I actually brought real Illithium to Sir Sarles, but this way I get to use the Illithium itself for a handy upgrade.

Neb

I'm not done with this just yet. I head over to the Copper Coronet, and speak at length with Unger Hilldark. He relates that he had his Illithium shipment stolen from him by a Hill Dwarf named Neb, and that Neb can be found in a Derelict House in the Bridge District.

I head over to the Bridge District, and then to its west side. Along the way I find a couple of familiar faces, Carbos and Shank, fighting over a girl named Bubbles.

I soon find the Derelict House that Unger was referring to. But first, at night here, there will be a Storekeep. I grab the opportunity to purchase scrolls of Protection from Magic Weapons for both Avastrian and Imoen at a discount. Protection from Magic Weapons is an apples and oranges comparison in comparison to other protective spells. Mirror Images and Stoneskin especially last longer than Protection from Magic Weapons, but they will wear off if the Mage using them gets hit enough times. Protection from Magic Weapons has a much shorter duration of 4 rounds, but it will remain in place no matter how many times in any of those rounds the Mage gets struck. It also has a casting time of 1. The end result is that Protection from Magic Weapons is an ideal spell for especially tense fights when a Mage gets surrounded by many foes. This makes the spell a quintessential tool for a Fighter/Mage like Avastrian.

Now I buff up, including Mirror Images and Haste. I soon find the dwarf named Neb, who is not only the thief of the Illithium but also the child killer on the run from Baldur's Gate. He summons the spirits of some of the children he killed, who are capable of level draining with their touch attacks. Haste in combination with a Defensive Harmony from Jaheira means that with a little luck I can kill them without getting level drained.

After that Keldorn uses his True Seeing to expose Neb so that I can cut him down. He leaves behind his head, 200 pounds of Illithium, and Neb's Nasty Cutter (+3 dagger, target must save vs. spells or fall asleep for two rounds). I pick up the Pearls left behind by the child spirits, loot the containers, and then leave.

I then bring Neb's head to Chief Inspector Brega in the Council of Six Building in the Government District. I get 2,500gp and +1 to reputation.

I then have Cromwell use the Illithium to upgrade the Mace of Disruption (+2 Mace, +5 enchantment for purposes of what creatures it can hit, undead must save vs. death at -4 or be destroyed, immunity to level drain). Anomen will use this mace for the rest of Shadows of Amn.

Dawn Ring

Now I speak with Guardian Telwyn again, and he wants me to head over to the nearby Temple of Lathander. Dawnbringer Sain wants me to recover the Dawn Ring for his church.

I then head over to the Copper Coronet, and rest until it's night time. I then go to the north side of the Slum District, and find Travin (night time only). It isn't hard to bluff him into revealing his contact, Borinall.

Now I head to the south side of the District, and then up the stairs leading to the top of the Copper Coronet. A door to the east leads to Borinall. I refuse to pledge devotion to Talos, as per his demand, so a fight is inevitable. Sometimes he has Thieves helping, but this time he's by himself and easily killed. I recover the Dawn Ring from his body and loot the chests for treasure, including a War Hammer +1.

I tie up another loose end by going north to a Temple of Ilmater and giving the Priest there Yoshimo's Heart. I get 50,000xp for this.

I then return to Dawnbringer Sain, and get 16,250xp and a 1,000gp for my troubles.

Now it's time to do a couple things for the Order of the Radiant Heart.
