Will Obama be seasoned enough in 2008 to make a run?

And was Edwards too damaged by 2004 to run effectively in 2008?

 

Edwards has been a huge, and puzzeling disappointment for the Democrats. He made almost no impact on the last election. I can't imagine that he would be a serious contender.

Dean made an interesting comment this week about the Republicans being, largely a "white, Christian party." It was an awkward comment, and unfortunate. He should have said something like, the Republican party was RUN by a bunch of male, white, middle-aged protestants from the South, dressed in business suits. I mean, let's be accurate at least...

 

Or better yet: the Republican party is run by a bunch of male, white, middle-aged protestants from the South, dressed in business suits (and for special occasions, cowboy boots and hats, even though they wouldn't know a saddle from an Aeron chair), all busily keeping their large running tab at Centerfolds a secret from their big-haired botoxed wives...

 

Yes, Chandos, it's unfortunate that Dean, who can sometimes be acute, often suffers from foot-in-mouth disease. The fact he wanted to get out could've, should've, been put in a much more telling fashion. I like it that he's a fighter, and that the Democrats chose to pick a fighter to head the DMC, but it's a measure of our troubles that this cauliflower-eared stumblebum is the best fighter they could find.

I hate to tell you this, but the Democratic Party is run by a bunch of white men in suits as well.

It is really funny to watch the Democrats claim that they are the party of diversity, and yet they rarely appoint any minorities to high positions. DNC, run by white men. Clinton's cabinet, almost all white, and mostly men. The upper echelons of Kerry's reelection team, all white.

Who was trying to block Janice Rogers Brown? Who blocked Miguel Estrada?

Then look at President Bush’s cabinet:

Department of Justice: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Department of Labor” Secretary Elaine Chao
Department of State Secretary: Condoleezza Rice
Department of Transportation Secretary: Norman Mineta

Race baiting is always such a wonderful pastime.

BUT - and here it comes - maybe you heard the name, Dick Army? and maybe Newt? sorry can't remember his last name, or where he is from. Who else? Trent Lott!This is actually fun. Chief Deputy Majority Whip - Well, pardon my southern accent. But let's get a Southern white Republican in a leadership postion to dispute Dean's charges...makes sense to me...And how about the King himself? And I don't mean Elvis!

 

My god, Darkwolf; you're right: Condoleeza is black. It's the first time I've gotten past the teeth.

Incidentally, it's not the ethicity of these people that bothers me. And I do hope you're not implying that there's a racist subtext to criticisms of the Bush administration's policies on these boards. Actually, looking again at your post, that does seem to be what you're implying; if so, it's a pretty sleazy implication. As though this administration, "pure as the driven slush", does nothing that reasonable persons might oppose without resorting to cheap racist slanders.

I do admire Dubya for finding so many representatives of oppressed minorities who are willing to join him eagerly in the Good Work.

 

Of course, one can/could always point out the Powells, Rices, Gonzaleses, etc etc, and say that = Repub diversity. But probably the comments of Chandos and I come from a kind of toxic shock particular to Houston, where the Repub leadership/donor class is just a little bit conspicuous, regardless of who they've put up as the local judical candidate. I think I could safely say that the cowboyhatted/bighaired donor couples are at the very least 4 to 1 Repub to Dem. Then again, for Ann Coulter, Dem women have bad skin, wear Berkenstocks, and don't shave their pits, so hey, we all like to have our partisan fun...

DMC - Dean's comments, as I pointed out, were unfortunate. But only because he fired from the hip, and did not qualify or carefully frame his comment. He could have said the same thing without coming across in a crass and vulgar manner. He could have just as easily commented on the leadership: Delay, Trent, Newt, Dick Army and George II, as representing a certain constituency that tends to be more exclusive, rather than inclusive, and tends to be religiously and regionally narrow in the reflection of its leadership, both in the recent past and the present. People would have gotten the picture fairly easily.

Of course, Dean could have said that the Republicans have no decency, common sense, and are just plain weird:

I not sure what's going on at Newsweek but these guys have really started to wake up. My feeling is that the whole way they have been treated lately has caused them to take an alternative view on the propaganda that has been spouted in the mainstream press. Newsweek has been the better for it. I may just pick up a hard copy of Newsweek next time I'm at the grocery store.
