Hal picked two marines and moved out checking each room or closet as they went. They moved down the stairs. As they neared the next floor they heard voices. Hal waved his marines to the side and crouching stepped into the corridor. He saw a group of men in navy uniform but as one turned towards him his features were strange. The man called out something in a foreign tongue and raised his gun.

Hal fired and leaped back as another marine took his place.

 

Eli shot over Hal, and then replied to Stephenson, "Echo One will be with us soon. They will do what I say; most of the guys have been my long time buddies." Eli was told by the temporary captain of Echo One that they would arrive within the next day.

Eli hoped they would.

 

I took a firing position at a corner and popped off a few bursts. Hal and the two marines were in danger of getting pinned.

"Medic!" I yelled. "Pull back a bit and stay with the captain. Damien, leave the kid with the two other marines, then go with Eli and our rearguard out the windows of the tower, down a level, and try to flank these bastards. You three," I said, pointing at the comm specialist and two others, "Stay here with me to lay down suppressing fire. Hal, see if you and your wingmen can get yourself back here."

I finished my clip, then stuck in another and continued firing down the corridor.

 

Michael winced in pain as more pressure was put on his wound. He was still bleeding. Despite his wounds and his position, the captain continued to give out orders.

"Scot. Keep an eye out for anyone who may be in Echo Unit. I don't know how long we'll be here, but be ready for them to arrive." The captain turned to another Marine.

"You. Go up to the next level and report what you can see from the tower's top. Be careful. Snipers are probably ready to watch that room." The Marines left.

The top floor was the one, large control room. It had four glass falls. A soldier in there would be an easy target.

Then the medic arrived.

"Time to get that bullet out, sir." he said, opening his large bag. Michael closed his eyes, ready for the pain.

 

Damien followed Eli and the other soldier out of the room, his pistol up and alert.

 

"Come on, we have to hurry." Eli jumped out the windows, and hurried to the nearest staircase. "In here," He tried to flick the lights, but nothing worked. "They've cut the wires." He slowly proceeded down the hall, only by touch. They came to a turn, then saw a light in a room. They went towards it and stopped beside the doorway. Eli motioned with his fingers, 3, 2, 1, and then barged in. He was surprised to find two sailors hiding behind a upturned table with two pistols (which they instantly dropped when Eli and the others had entered , and shot up their hands). "Do you have a way of communication?" When they nodded, he turned to it, "Let's get the comm guys upstairs." He turned it on and called them.

 

Hal and his two marines moved back under the covering fire.
