Amon-Ra - You're a computer programmer? Interesting. I would think you would be dead set against the proliferation of piracy. No, people can't put a patent on bits, but we can't ignore the creativity factor. Hell, any yahoo can buy a bunch of paints and a brush but they won't be able to create a masterpiece. The creativity involved in making games (or paintings for that matter) in my opinion is worth something. Are you hurting anyone? - yes and no. Maybe you would never buy the game in the first place, but on your recommendation 20 friends will want to play the game as well. Where does it stop?

If you can't afford the game, well I suppose you could wait a year until the price comes down, or you could pirate it and drive the price up for the rest of us (software developers have profit margins too). Let's say you just spent a whole day making the most exquisite dessert possible, along comes Lord Moeken - hey no one is looking - I think I'll just take it, mmmmm. It just sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Can ANYONE explain what in the hell that "jelly in the jar" metaphor is supposed to mean?!

 

Moeken, my particular philosophy is simple. I understand that many people become upset at the proliferation of piracy, and to them I say sorry... I mean, I do buy games. However, I must say that in all honesty, half of the games I buy are crap. Spending 30-50 dollars for a game I play for less than 15 minutes is horrid. I appreciate games like Baldur's Gate II, Unreal Tournament, just to name a few, and in return for the money I skipped, I support further installations of that game. Take Q1. I didn't buy Q1. But after playing it for a few months, I have since bought both Q2 and Q3. Q3 ended up being crap (anyone who says otherwise can eat me), and I felt as though THEY cheated me. I paid 40 bucks for shit. In my mind, that makes up for the wee bit I didn't shell for Q1. I didn't buy Diablo. After a while of playing, I bought Diablo2. Diablo2 ended up being crap IMO, and I felt that made us even. I got 1+crap for the price of one. Perhaps if the industry would not make horrible sequels, I wouldn't feel this way . Whether you agree or not, it's better than shelling 120 bucks for all 3 and being disappointed like Q3 or D2, and wishing you hadn't bought the game.

As a CP, I hope I will never make a bad product. But if I do, I'm not going to charge $20 less cuz its crap. No, I'm going to rip off all the little kiddies by charging the full, if not expanded price. And when they feel cheated, I shall rock back in my chair and smoke my cigar...

I am going to have to agree with apoxy on this one. I mean the metaphor is so fitting for someone like Amon-Ra.

If you really want to metaphoricalize Amon-Ra, you have to reach way down into your inner self and pull out something wet and creamy. Like a bagel, or something. Mmmmmmm, bagel..........

I consider myself semi-lucky. Most games I bought were not all that bad. Some where really crapy like Tiberium sun, damn that game sucked. I mean its hard to dogde the crapy games with the big hypes. It seems a lot of the good games are underrated.

 

Am I the only one who is confused? I just looked through this thread today (it said for Amon-Ra to read it, so I figured it wasn't any of my business, but the number of posts looked interesting).

Okay, "Acolyte Lessons 101":
First, it takes me two minutes to write a post with almost perfect grammar. I'm not bragging, but the point had to be made.
Second, intelligence is kinda something you need in life. Think before you talk (or write).
Third, don't smack down on the moderators and owners. It is a very, VERY bad thing to do. One can get spanked for that.

Finally, what do these freaks have against Amon? Anyone? The only thing that I have against him is that he's too logical .

Grow up, get a life, and git huk't on fonix or something.

If you haven't banned her/him/them already Tal, keep them around...I can use some comic relief.

Tal: Sorry bout them... I just found out it was my misguided friends just playing around with me and this board. Don't get me wrong, I think they deserve the bans, but the IP that was banned was not their own, but that of our school. Now no one in our school can post or go into chat. Not to mention that the 2 jokers can still post and raise hell in chat from home if they really wanted to...
