    wannabes

People who seek amputation of healthy limbs are thought to be suffering from some kind of neurological disorder that makes them feel a body part or limb is an unnatural or foreign part of them selves.

They often have an intense desire to have the offending body part removed. Apart from their wish to have a healthy limb removed they often have no sign of mental illness.

Someone with this disorder once explained to me "imagine having a third arm coming out of your stomach its useful but really creepy you don't feel right having it there."

Even after psychotherapy and drug treatments many still crave to have the offending anatomy removed. Currently no doctors are performing amputations of healthy body parts. A doctor in Scotland performed two such procedures on patients after years of other treatments failed to relieve the patients of their distress.

On one hand i feel wannabes need a good hard kick up the bum. People with disabilities would love to get their limbs back or get out of their wheelchairs. having a disability is a major pain in the butt. Maybe if they realised the hardship having an amputation would create they might lose their desire to have a limb removed.

On the other hand its a condition i don't fully understand. I feel maybe i should not be so judgmental. But if someone does self amputate a limb they should not complain about how difficult life is due to their amputation.

Now that was truly an impressive feat of necromancy. For your first post you resurrect a thread that was dead for five years. I salute you trueman66

[IMG] You know I was thinking about amputation the other day.

If I ever had my legs lopped off I'd want interesting prosthetics, I think it would be cool to get ones that weren't necessarily human to pop on for special occassions. I know Weta Workshops made a mermaid tail for a double leg amputee to swim in.

I personally don't get along well with wannabees or devotees, had enough hassle from them before that I have no interest in sympathising with them.

I've heard stories of people wounding (not amputating, though) a limb if they earn their money by begging, thinking that it would help them earn more. I imagine some may even be right about that. I don't have any proof, though, so it might be just urban legends of some sort.

I really have problems imagining anyone actually going to a doctor and asking for an amputation. For that matter... I can't imagine a normal doctor agreeing to it.
