Are monks as good as they seem?

I have tried to. Unfortunately, my game corrupted and I had to reinstall just before I got to The Asylum.

And yeah, you can open chests/doors/whatever without picking them or knocking them- you force them open with brute strength.
As for traps, you have to rely on your Magic Resistance...

There is only one place before the Asylum atleast where I had to turn down the difficulty to lowest (from Insane); and that was at the two unavoidable traps in Chateau Irenicus- the one on the Chest with the portal key, and the one in front of that chest. On Insane difficulty, these traps WILL kill you unless you have a warrior`s hit points, or some way to guard against them (and a Monk at that level has neither).

In my opinion, the monk is the best class. I just finished NWN as a monk, and let me tell you I had to crank up the hardness (seriously!) because the monk made the game so easy. With an AC of 45 or so (Sorry for all u still using bg2 rules) you never get hit and if you do the belt of slash obsorbing takes it in for ya. And hes nearly immune to magic!

The same exists in Bg2, besides a massive AC factor so early. At the end of TOB I had around -20AC, and the Monk saves are amazing, and he is magic resistant and non-magical weapon resistant. The monks only 2 weaknesses are weak at the beggining, and fists, although they become very powerfull, not as powerfull as most metal weapons.

I have a list of why you should love the monk but I'll leave it there.
