    Red Storm Rising--Tom Clancy
    The "Elric of Melnibone" series--Michael Moorcock
    "The Watchmen"--oops, slipped a graphic novel in there...

    OK, I'm a bit late on this thread but Stephen Donaldson is a superb writer. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and the Gap series are two of my all time favourites.

    Current day fiction is Christopher Brookmeyer and Tom Clancey

    Historical Fiction is the Bernard Cornwall, and James Clavell

    Got to stick right behind those LOTR Lovers, it naturally leaves the movies at the start line. I ate it up in one big bite and licked my lips clean afterwards! After that it would have to be David Eddings and the Redemption of Althalus. Didn't get the hype it deserved.
