That's exactly it. You have to make sure all of the other robed figures are killed before you kill Ace, or else you'll have to kill him again. The biggest problem is having enough dispel magic spells memorized to get rid of his death gaze effects. (It seems strange that you have several rounds to dispel it before turning into a ghast, but I guess it wouldn't be particularly fair if the effects were instantaneous, as characters of that level are going to fail saving throws regularly.) Anyway, AFAIK, there is no way to predict who he is going to gaze at, and no sure-fire preventable way to avoid the effects. The best you can do is throw on bless, aid, PfE, and hope for the best.

Potions of Mirrored Eyes are the effective preventative measure for his death gaze.

If you add to your rules that the AC must be permanent (and 'while-equipped'-based) then you (and SP's page) are right. Otherwise, the cumulative -2 AC bonus effect of Protection from Evil spells can give much better AC than -13. Down to -24.

Edit: I've just noticed one of your later posts Aldeth, where you mention spells and potions. Nonetheless, I think that to your rules, you should have added 'permanent' (more precisely, "depending only on player's decisions" i.e. the player's decision is allowed to be the only factor that can change the AC. For example, unequipping a ring. But cannot wear off, such as spell.)

What Baronius explains was what I was referring to. Once you start including spells, many of which stack, you can get a much lower AC. Technically, if you cast mirror image you are all but unhitable. In BG1, you must destroy all of the images before hitting the caster. It's not like in BG2, where there's a chance you hit the right image. You're always wrong in BG1 until there are no images left.

Hey. I wasn't aware that a characters AC could go below -10. Is the difference only in the expansion?

No, it is becose they never bothered to actually program in the 2E AD&D rule limit for Armor.

It Should have been maximum -10 AC (or minimum depending on point of view).

And Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (aka playing in Faerun) Should increase this to a max of -12 AC. Specific for that world.

Planescape torment did indeed put in this rule (another reason i love that game) so a Maximum of -10 AC.

Although it should be pointed out, that there really is insufficient equipment in BG1 to get more than one character below -10. I mean, your PC can do it, and if you have a character with the bracer of dexterity they can do it, but there are insufficient equipment to get two characters that low. There's only one helm of balduran, and one cloak of balduran. You could of course use a cloak of protection +2, but then that prevents you from using the ring +2. So really only one character will even get below -10 in a game.

You can get almost get four characters close to a AC of -10. The PC, Coran, Viconcia, and any character who is equipped with the GoD.

If you happen to have the four characters above you can have all of their AC below -5. As for the lowest AC in BG I believe Coran can achieve -14 if you give him the Tome of Dex using the same items in the very first message in this post.

    Coran Dex: 21
Armor: Full Plate Mail (merchant or bandit camp)
    Helm: Balduran's (Helm and Cloak)
Shield: +2 Medium Shield (Lower Levels of Durlag's Tower)
Ring Slot #1: +2 Ring of Protection (Razamith)
Ring Slot #2: Claw of Kazaroth (Purchased from High Hedge)
    Cloak: Balduran's Cloak (Undercellars)
Weapon: Drizzit's Scimitar (both +3 weapons, but you're specifically looking for the one that grants the bonus of 2 AC.

But it isn't possible to have more than one character in your party at a time with a lower AC, even though there are several NPC's who can get it.

Actually you can have 4 characters with ACs between -6 to -9. To me I rather have four character who are well protected than one or maybe two. But of course that is just me.

OK, I thought you were still talking about your initial post when you said it was possible to get 4 different characters down to -10, which left me scratching my head.
