    ABJURATION . . . . OPPOSITION: TRANSMUTATION, ILLUSION
    CONJURATION . . . OPPOSITION: EVOCATION
    DIVINATION . . . . OPPOSITION: CONJURATION
    ENCHANTMENT . . OPPOSITION: EVOCATION
    EVOCATION . . . . OPPOSITION: DIVINATION, CONJURATION
    ILLUSION . . . . . . OPPOSITION: NECROMANCY, ABJURATION
    NECROMANCY . . . OPPOSITION: ILLUSION, ENCHANTMENT
    TRANSMUTATION . OPPOSITION: NECROMANCY, ABJURATION

I have just copy-pasted this from a list available here. Looking at the opposition schools, I dont think a specialist solo is advisable. You just cant do without Necromancy, Evocation, Conjuration and Illusion can you?

Edit: damn! All the white space got eaten up

I am coming really, really, really (17 years late) to this party, but I decided to replay the game recently and I have to say, a really good combo is having a Necromancer with a bard (with 4 ranks of fighter). Necromancer can't cast illusion or enchantment, but a bard gets a lot of those spells herself. I gave my bard max dexterity and 4 ranks of fighter along with rapid shot, so she's all about the longbow and the "lingering song" feat. Between the two of them I find this the best possible arrangement for casters. Also, I used to always use a rogue as my archer but found they were always being tangled up in melee combat after backstabbing, so using a bard as an archer works better. Other party members are Aasimar paladin, Dwarf cleric of Tempus, and Tiefling ranger/rogue. Just 5 characters to maximize xp.

Sorcerer can scribe and put restricted scrolls as quick items.
Paladin, Monk, Druid, Cleric. can only scribe restricted scrolls.

Monk is an option for level 1 evasion, axes and monk only equipment.
Paladin/Druid offer martial weapons over a cleric pick, maybe even some druid only items as well.

Specialists get +2 DC to their schools saving throws and the best are either necromancy or enchantment.

Losing Evocation is easy since a sorcerer would always do that job better anyway with the extra daily spell casts.

Used to run Conjurer but their is no spell focus conjuration

Since when can Sorcerers, Paladins, Monks, Druids, or Clerics scribe spells? Bards can't scribe either in the 3E based IWD2, unlike the 2E based IWD1.

Those classes let Specialist Wizards scribe restricted spell scrolls.

I've been reenginering my team so wizard takes a level in monk, +2 attacks per round gloves and regain evocation magic for Mordenkainen's sword.
