@shadow lurker I think you probably were scarred by reading Pratchett at such an early age, and understandably finding it long and detailed at that age, with the humour not direct enough for a child.

I would suggest you try "The Colour of Magic" the very first one, if you want to try again.

@Tak I'll disagree although Vimes and Carrot are funny, for me the best books involve one or more of Granny Weatherwax, Death, Susan or Rincewind and the Luggage, and as a extra delight Greebo!

My personal faves are Night Watch and Moving Pictures. Night Watch was truly moving and Moving Pictures was just so like the movie industry that I couldn't help but laugh out loud :D The Fifth Elephant is one of my faves as well. He should do a book with Vetinari as the main character.

Lords and Ladies, Eric, Soul Nusic, Hogfather, Mort, Reaper Man and Carpe Jugulum are the ones I've enjoyed most

I found Robert Jordan too over written. I found myself scimming pages till a relevant person or event came up. Oh and Sam Vimes rules.

I think I've said this before, but I had extreme difficulties reading Don Quixote.
