Arslan, by M. J. Engh. I stuggled to the part where it switches to this teenager's point of view (IIRC), and I got a backache and my head started to bleed. I figured that was a good sign that I should stop. (Oh, oh, I assure you, the book make those things happen. Read it -- you'll see.)

i could not finish the rest of the Wheel of Time series, IMO Robert Jordan did some really shabby work with his last few books, which i could not finish, but i was extremely disappointed because i liked his first 5 maybe 6 books of his series, but i could especially not force myself to read through 9+10
i tried and it was torture, i was thinking what have you done Robert Jordan with a relatively good series!

I managed to finish the simarillion, though my brain had to take a holiday while I was reading it. Also I got halfway through the New Jedi order series, and gave up in total disgust.

Couldn't even get halfway through Frank McCourt's book Angela's Ashes - it just got too confusing with the lack of quotation marks. Too much hard work to read.

Wow, really? Angela's Ashes is one of my top 20 books of all time. I thought it was brilliant.

Im another one in the list of people who couldn't get around The Silmarillion.
I've read a load of Issac Asimov's books and yeah Foundation Trilogy IS dry. Like the author himselfs says "Why would any one like these stories?". And then in 'Foundation and Earth' he has to return to R Daneel Olivov. Really bad ending.
An author I really dont get is that Sydney Sheldon guy. What is the point??
And finally 'Dremcatcher', just cant get past the first 50 pages.

I had to read Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu" for a University class... I made it to page 52, around where the 4th sentence ends... Very, very painful. :help:

Goodkind's "Stone of Tears". I don't think I'll read any more from the Sword of Truth series. Such a complex story to be ended in such a stupid, fairy tale-like way.

When I came back to any of Salvatores work a couple of weeks ago, I was struggling to push my self to read on. It just feels like less than mediocre trash now.

I'm just reading the Legacy 'as we post'.
Can't believe you actually coundn't finish that. That **** is the madnote! Especially the first book of it: 'Legacy' itself. It's good, believe me. Someone else said IWD Trilogy was bad, shame on you. how can you say that. You must be joking.

No way in hell you can claim those series as bad and plainly ignore Athans' work. Immoral! ;) I also liked Seneca's letters, but I hate it when you have to explain them. (someone brought it up, dunno why)

I for one couldn't finish the Shannara books. I stopped during the first one, as it was actually my very first fantasy book. Furthermore it was written in my mother tongue, which contributed to the lame story. And yes, count the Silmarillion in as well. I read that before the LotR trilogy, which i still haven't read, a stupid act. (to read it before that is...)

The only book I started but not managed to finish is the third book of the Fionavar Tapestry trilogy. I don't know why but suddenly, in the middle of the story, I didn't feel like reading it, so I threw it away.

I couldn't really get into the Silmarillion the first 4 times I tried, I actually was enjoying it when life suddenly became hostile.
I REALLY had a tough time with Donaldson's "Lord Foul's Bane" -- it was slow and rather dull, not to mention that I found the writing weak. I made it through that one, but the other 5 books, well, it's a good thing I didn't buy them and instead received them as gifts, let me tell you.

To be honest, I have a tough time with most TSR writing these days -- I read it primarily to relive my youth, not for the writing quality. I know that sounds snotty and elitist, but it's the truth.

I can't seem to get around reading the first book of the wheel of time. The story cannot hold me as of yet, and everytime the mail delivers a book I'd rather read.

Catcher in the Rye. I know this is supposed to be a classic, but it's the only book I remember never being able to finish.

Oh and... there actually IS a Baldur's Gate novel?? (shock)

And... a Might and Magic novel!!!??? (even more shocked)

The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's just so bad! I barely got through it, and that's only because I had to read it for an assignment in English. It's just so damn boring.

Unabridged version of Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne.

Hardest thing I did in ages. The book was just soo...dry.

Also, anyone who says a WORD against WoT by Jordan is going to hear from me. :flaming:

    Heh...just kidding.
