I work for the payment processing team in a company working as support to various online casinos and poker sites. It was supposed to be a short gig, but at some point I was offered a good position and with unemployment being high I've decided to stick with it for a while. My work is relatively well-paid, but I can't say I enjoy it much, and the prospects for advancement aren't exactly great.

As for me, I work in IT for a major American IT outscouring company. I generally take calls from different accounts areas with a range of IT issues. But I also do 2nd line work and server monitoring work (although probably nowhere near the same in-depth level as others here! - more just housekeeping, ping checks, scheduled reboots.. if something is seriously fooked, I'd send it to someone like you guys to sort :p ).

It pays a decent wage, because I work shifts as well, so I'll stick with it. Not many jobs in my area pay very good wages to be honest, so I count myself lucky.

If anyone wants to know the SINGLE worst account we support in terms of rudeness, crassness and general lack of understanding it is the New York Stock Exchange... JESUS but those guys are rude!

So there are at least 4 of us accountants on these Boards. I started my career working for a firm of accountants as well. It's a good place to start.

Web media production / management mostly... though I'm pretty much hands-on with everything else that surrounds it as well. The only thing I don't do is code.

I'm an Art Director (which is a fancy way of saying senior-level graphic designer) working mostly in editorial design at the moment, but I'm looking to get back into branding. I also do interaction design, but no coding.

In the evenings, however, I moonlight as tha Luuuuv Docta. (bow-wow jiggudda bow-ka-wow)

I work as an engineer in the engine development of a truck manufacturer. I manage datasets, which is not that great in and of itself, except that I rolled into it when we were just setting it up, so I could figure out with help of some others how we would handle it, which was good fun. I'm still doing quite a lot of tool development and improving the speed of the tools we already had. I enjoy the coding work, so I'm still having quite some fun with work.

There's still plenty of challenges and upcoming changes in my current work that I won't get bored any time soon, but I would still like to try my luck elsewhere sometime in the near future. Even if only to broaden my horizon.

I'm a General Complainer. I complain about the government, capitalism, and society, particularly about all the stupid crap they expect from people at the expense of our happiness.

However, I want to be a filmmaker, which fits my dreams of being able to create artistic works, but is the complete opposite of my hatred of capitalism because Hollywood primarily revolves around money.

I repair and install industrial valve actuators. Some are very basic and other are very complex. I rarely work in the same place for mare than a day or two and travel alot. Last week I was in a chemical plant, a water treatment plant and a coal fired power plant.

I'm a law professor. And for the most part, I love my job. I teach the classes I want to teach, and write what I want to write about. Mind you ... every job has its drawbacks.

I am a freelance translator, mostly translating technical stuff and computer programs from English to Danish.

The "freelance" part came after my employer (a big company) was bought up by an evil competitor (an even bigger company) who later realised they weren't getting rich enough by doing translations and sold off their translation division to an even eviller (is that a word?) competitor (an even bigger big company), and I decided I'd rather be a mercenary than a patriot. I haven't regretted so far. The hours are sometimes crazy and the pay varies from month to month but at least it's my own fault if the boss is a [CENSORED].

I'm a postgraduate student. I major in History and Japanese, and my thesis is on Japanese History (see what I did there?). I'm pretty good at it and most of the time I enjoy it a lot. We have an office this year and everyone is pretty close - I've even found a few geeks who's played the IE games!

Next year I will hopefully be a teaching assistant in Japan, in a government-paid job.

As for fulling my career plans, life's only just begun. Consider this step number one in the road.
