    Morgoth - I don't really see anything wrong with doing that. Whether I would or not is another matter (I don't actually know - I might be in favour of abortion if it was a really crummy IQ).

    I would accept and even support an abortion in a case such as this one. But the final decision rests with the woman - it is her who is pregnant, it is her body.

    Having a mentally and/or physically handicapped child takes a lot of energy and effort - enough to prevent a couple from having another, healthier child.

    I would guess it also leads to a high divorce rate due to the stress involved.

    The real trick is this: many of the tests that they give you when you're pregnant only give you an indication of potential problems. They do a scan and come back and say you have a 1 in 132 or a 1 in 47 chance of having a particular deficiency. That's when it all gets a lot tougher. There are so many grey areas in this whole debate. What would you do if you were told there was a 1 in 3 chance your child would have an intellectual handicap? And would if there was no certainty as to exactly how bad the handicap was?
