(Just a note: while the Wanderer setting is loosely based upon Planescape; it is not exactly like it. Furthermore, Sheth hasn't acquired much knowledge of the planes yet. Then again, he may have just read it from one of the books he took with him.)

H'tleth shrugs.

"Demons, devils, it's all the same. But there is one Demon, or, if you prefer, Devil Lord who owes me a favor. I guess we could pay him a visit, if you don't mind."

(Note back: Since I've never seen Planescape, I'll take your word for it. )

Sheth considered the matter and decided that he, a man is in search of his identity, shouldn't be choosy about that of another. "Demon is as demon does, I say, so let's go."

 

"Well, I figure there's two ways to get to Hades - the Plane of the Fiends, of course. One: we simply walk away from Mechanus 'til we get there. That'll take quite a while. Two: we find someone who does plane-travelling. Either way will take a while."

H'tleth pauses for a second.

"You wouldn't happen to be capable of that, would you?"

 

Sheth: "How should I know?"

 

"I've seen humans do it before. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it. All you really have to do is concentrate on a place, and you can get to it."

 

"OK, I'll try - but I need a good description or some distinguishing landmarks so we end up in the right pit of fire and brimstone."

 

The Slaad chuckles.

"Think of a big field of wheat. Crows endlessly caw there, and prey on whoever walks around there. And the whole place has that, well, that fiendish touch to it. I hope you know what I mean."

 

Sheth concentrates very hard on the scene the Slaad described.

 

Mechanus becomes insubstantial. It fades like dying frost. Its image withers like a dessicated flower. It blurs into an off-white nothingness. An empty, hollow, shell of nothing has replaces the crumbling clockwork.

And out of the emptiness, a Being approaches. With form but not detail. With a head but faceless. With a body but without flesh. Clear. Transparent. Lucid.

It suffocates Sheth. It asphyxiates him. It is one with him, and life drains down into nowhere.

Andwhydoyoupersist? Howdoyoucontinue? Wherewillyougo?

Amidst nothingness, Sheth makes a gasp. Stalks of grain blur into being. A sky forms above Sheth. And the tangible returns.

He is standing admist a field of bronze-colored wheat. A light magenta sky hangs over the hellscape, and dark purple clouds drift lazily in it. A bloodred sun stares down at the field, and a tall tree of the darkest shade stands next to Sheth.

Upon the tree's branch is a large crow, the size of a man. It caws, and its beady eyes flash a red glow. It stares at the Slaad and the amnesiac.

"What are you doing here?"

Summary (I feel that I should probably post one every now and then)
Sheth, an amnesiac, has spent two days in the world searching for his identity. As far as he knows, a race known as the Formians have some interest in him; they have tried to kill/capture him before. Also, a Slaad named H'tleth has taken an interest in helping Sheth, but his motive is unclear.

Furthermore, the Planes of existence are falling apart. Law is breaking down. Chaos is stagnating. And something between the planes has tried to kill Sheth.

 

ooc - let's try to keep this FA alive, too, along with the day's new offerings!

ic - "Trying to figure out why so many beings in the multiverse want me dead," Sheth snaps. "I owe it myself to understand why I deserve this fate before I allow myself to succumb to it, don't you think?"

The crow eyes Sheth intently.

"A group of crows is called a murder. Do you know that? Perhaps we ought to simply just murder you for intruding on our fields.

"But I see you've brought our... acquaintance with you. I suppose I won't be inclined to kill you today. But only because we owe H'tleth a favor. So state your business and get out of here."

 

Sheth held his breath for a moment, gathering his composure. "No one can make a plan - however tenuous - for the future without some understanding of the past. That was taken from me, and I wish to recover it. I need to learn who I was before I can move forward as what I now am."

 

The crow caws.

"The Scarecrow knows everything. We are his servants."

H'tleth whispers to Sheth, "The Scarecrow is an exiled Devil Prince; he was one of the most knowledgable rulers of the Lower Planes. If anything, he should know who you are."
