I've looked at my LOD CD and it's looking a bit scratched and whatnot. I have installed the game on my laptop for the time being and would love for it to not need to CD. Is there a way to make an image of the CD so that I can retire the actual CD and the game will just look to the image when it does its initial check at the beginning of the game?

I am a hopeless noob on tech things and now that I have Win 7, I'm even more in the dark (my old machine was XP, which I was comfortable with).

[IMG] You can make an image which would mean installing iso mounting software on your machine which some anti-piracy software construes as harmful and will block applications (Hey, better safe than sorry, right? Securom was a mean sod for this, which I understand LOD uses?)

I also believe the 1.12 patch removes the CD check and securom checks from the main application - the current patch is at 1.13c, so should take care of it.

An alternative is to make a backup of the exe and then use a no-CD patch. I could not find the particular file on the site I usually use (Handy when someone KEEPS TIDYING THE FLAT) as it lists the game as having no-cd with the official patch.

I never use my CD anymore - one of the recent patches (I think it was 1.12 as 8 says) removed the need for the CD anymore. Instructions on the how-to can be found over at Amazon Basin, or incgamers site (which I cannot access from work, or else I'd just post the link).

you can also download copies of any old/new blizzard game on their webpage, providing you have the cd-key.

    Balle beat me to it.

If you put your CD Key in on the Blizzard site, they'll give you a direct download version that doesn't need a CD or anything.

I actually took care of it, thanks. I just needed to copy a couple of .mpq files from the CD to the hard drive and presto, no more need for a CD.

    Thanks, all.
