I found a Kindle Keyboard at Good Will about four or five years ago. I mostly use it to read fanfiction that I download. Calibre and FanFicFare FTW. Also Fanfiction Downloader and FicHub.
I've never purchased an ebook and my local library needs a Kindle Fire to use their ebooks (or a PC).
I have however downloaded a few things from the Baen free library (link keeps changing, just Google it), and also the CDs they released about 10 years back.

Here are links to the Baen free CD library (I used Fifth Imperium), which were free and legal a decade ago. They include most of the Honor Harrington series, the Posleen saga, the first 5 1632 books, three Witches of Karres books, and many more.
