Going into your inventory should unpause the game though. It's a little odd how one could transfer a load of items through everyone and continue with the battle as if nothing happened.

Is there an option to change this by chance?!

I only reload if a character dies...(Maybe cheap?) But I don't reload if a spell I was hoping would bring down an enemy doesn't work, or their magic resistance saves them. I think that's kinda cheesy.

I used to reload in BG if I didn't like the level up hit points, but I've even stopped doing that in BG2. I think there are so many powerful items in the game, there's not much reason to do it.

I don't believe you can cause the game to unpause when you go to inventory. I remember reading somewhere that they had reasons for doing this in BG2.

I personally like it only because it would be very difficult to switch from a bow to dual wielding if it unpaused on the inventory screen, and I don't think that's unreasonable to do in combat...

No it's not unreasonable to do during combat, but switching a weapon takes a round away, unless of course you drop the one you're using on the ground.

Pausing the game, switching weapons, passing around potions, digging out scrolls from scroll cases, putting on a new pair of boots.

Let's see. In P&P that is 4 rounds lost in battle to goofing around in your backpack.

Christ almighty. I figured I'd never have this many posts on one of my topics(even though it went pretty far away from my question). Well might as well chime in. I rarely ever reload. I've learned to live with the ass whoopings I might take in the game. The only time I reload anymore is when my main character dies(rarely) or I do something horribly wrong that I can't get out of. Other than that, I take my deaths and defeats pretty well now.
Anyway, I've been thinking about this. Since I did go to the huge trouble to get the gessen bow string(and in my game, it was huge trouble), I will go back to a saved game and import the string(since I'm playing multi player). However, even if I do import the silver blade just so I can fight for the hilt, I'm dumping the item. It may have been my fault I dropped it, so I'll pay for it. I never even figured out where the wave blade was, which sucks, but I've decided not to read ahead on walkthroughs on this game.

If you want to know where the wave blade is, look at the 4th post down from the top...

No, I realize now where it is. To late to get it though. Thanks for the pointer, though.

Hey gentlemen, I noticed something. In battle, if you pause and go to your inventory screen, a timer starts. When it runs out, the game unpauses and you get to see your PCs getting whupped by their decreasing HP on their portraits.
Unlike in IWD, they balanced it even more in BG2.

Hmm, I always get them to follow me down stairs, to me thats just like slowly uncovering enemies one-by-one in the shroud.
