[IMG] Enough with the promotion of illegal file-sharing programs. If you download music illegally, fine, there's nothing I can do about it anyway. But keep your mouth shut about the details.

I occasionally use www.singingfish.com - put >1 minute in advanced search, and I reckon there's a 50% chance of getting the song you want.

I bought the official soundtracks of LoTR:FoTR, and LoTR:TTT. I can listen to neither on any system I have, because of the cd-protections on them. And I didn't realise to go ask my money back in time. I will never buy music again as long as such stupid systems exist. Especially since it was no trouble at all to find those musics in the net.

While I've done everything right (legally) now, basically, that I should own the official version of a song and then a "backup" copy on my computer.. It's still a matter of a principle that I will not not buy a useless cd only to get the permission to then hunt down a free pirated version of it over the net, to just get what I payed for in the first place.

I do not promote piracy, I very much think it should be weeded out, IF it can be guaranteed that the products will then be sold for an acceptable price (which I very much doubt). But why make the buyers pay for non-working products in a lame attempt to prevent piracy, when everyone knows someone somewhere will always crack the protections and put a working version on the net; the place where everyone who does piracy will find what they're looking for with no extra trouble at all compared to a non-cd-protected product in the anyway.

CD's expensive because of record companies? I order all my CDs directly from the record companies. I pay about $3 per CD. It's the stores that charge outrageous prices, not the record companies.

Of course, my school just bought a premium membership to Napster2 for all of its students, so I can now get any song I want for free whenever I want it.

I'm not sure for which retailer you worked, but I worked for Circuit City Stores for many years and I can tell you that there was almost no margin in CDs - like bewteen 10-15%. Perhaps the store you worked for got a better deal than they did. Otherwise, I don't know how you came by your info.
