And why would Jaheira and all druids wear leather? Aren't they supposed to PROTECT the animals? I figure they would shun any armor made from animal hide.

Faerun (and most fantasy worlds) aren't ruled by some misguided vegan philosophy. :p
Druids and Rangers protect nature but that does not mean they can't hunt and kill animals! Just imagine if the world were filled with druids and rangers all going around telling all the animals not to kill each other.
Leather (and hides) is nature's way of giving protection so it's only natural that a druid would accept that.

[IMG] Also, Druids are believers in what they call 'The Balance', which means they believe in the never ending cycle of life (e.g. cheetahs eat gazel, if gazel becomes scarce, not enough food for all the cheetahs, cheetah population lowers, gazel start to become more plentiful as they are hunted less, and so the cheetahs population grows due to the plentiful food supply, the cycle begins again) and Druids also believe that hunting for food, warmth & protection (leather armor) , so thats why they kill animals occasionally.
