I played through once with Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc, Dynaheir, and Imoen (the supposed party at the start of BG2). I was impressed at what a solid party this was. So I thought about useing one of each NPC pairing in a party and I picked Khalid & Dynaheir as the two I would use first. Later on I may mix and match them in other combinations. I just wanted to avoid minsc altogether this time and wondered if it would matter.

Minsc is the one NPC I never get tired of. However, I don't like Dynaheir a lot and as Felinoid said, I don't have the heart to just get Dynaheir killed.

I was thinking, if you get Minsc first and take too long to go after Dynaheir, he will complain and eventually leave you, right? But what exactly is the event that stops that timer? Actually initiating dialogue with Dynaheir or just arriving at the Gnoll Stronghold area? Because if it is the latter, then I guess I could just arrive there, get my gauntlets, my CHA tome and leave without taking Dynaheir and without having Minsc leave.

Though I guess that would be just as mean as getting the poor witch killed. Can you believed I actually romanced her while playing Tutu? It was a fun romance, but I'm still more curious about Shar-Teel. But I digress.

It's the dialogue with Dynaheir, although it doesn't stop the timer. Instead, it just sets a variable so that when the timer expires, Minsc won't leave the party and attack you.

I always just kill dynaheir and get edwin, even if minsc is in the party he will assume she was killed in battle. Bad scripting imo...

She stinks. A single classed Mage is unneeded in BG1, and she's one of the worst specialist mages.

If you want a better mage, use Imoen.

The only GOOD single class mage is Edwin. He has bonus spells (2 for each level due to his amulet I think) and is a Conjurer, thus he is unable to cast spells from the Divination school, which can easily be overlooked in this game.

Should that be "it's a freaking sleep spell"?

Oh yeah, Dynaheir can't cast that one. And Edwin can. Hmmm.

    Another question on this topic.

First, I like Minsc even though he is a critical hit magnet and dies just as easily as most thieves and mages do if cornered.

I also like Edwin for all the right (and wrong) reasons.

You have to go save/kill the witch to recruit and keep either, so what can you do when you get there? Kill her somehow without Minsc noticing? Dialogue option dependant on alignment/attribute?

What can you do to keep Minsc and Edwin?

The key is getting Dynaheir before Edwin. He'll then join you to keep an eye on her, and you can get rid of her after all three are in the party. She's one of the important triggers to the fight, and without her it won't be able to happen. As for getting rid of her without Minsc noticing...he's an idiot. Just whack her while she's in the party and then drop her.

I love it when things are nice and easy. Is there any rep drop for killing a party member?

Well, I can't really answer that question since I've never CTRL-Q'd a commoner and then killed them. But suffice it to say that there's no rep drop for killing any joinable NPC, even Ajantis.

You don't have to whack her yourself though. If she should somehow get cornered by those hobgoblins or if she should just (through her own clumsiness of course) just walk into that mustard jelly...oh well...what can I say...

Or...if you don't want to see her corpse everytime you pass the road, you can always arrange to leave her in some house somewhere...sort of like leaving a puppy in a basket... ;)
