The reason I think why Blades fit into this category is that Blades can do well enough with minimal spellcasting. He's actually very similar to the Swashbuckler. Exchange a few thieving skills for spells, Traps for Skull Traps, minimize the item restrictions and there you have it. Swashbucklers will have better AC and THAC0, but the difference isn't much.
You are also pretty much insured with a Blade because if things should go wrong, you could always relying on your casting side.
Based on experience soloing a class completely devoid of spellcasting abilities is not exactly easy.

Stealing can be very useful in solos. While I agree that money is not an issue, this happens only after you've done several quests. It really helps when you're well equipped enough from the start, depending on the restrictions you want on your game. Your restrictions will also affect whether or not you'll enjoy the rest of the game - if things get too easy it won't be worth playing that much anymore.

This happens only in ToB, and only then even is recommended under *very* dire circumstances.

I just levelled up to the point that I have one sixth level spell slot. I'm using mislead and boy is it great. My general "kill anything" strategy has been thus...

stoneskin + draw upon holy might + mirror image + mislead (with the illusion singing bard song) + offensive spin.

It was very fun to watch him run around and kill the entire mae'var guildhouse in a snap.

He's only around level 17, I shudder to think what he will be like once he gets into the the 30+ levels.
