Ah, but if you are trying to raise a lot of money in an online auction, you'd want to appeal to as large an audience as possible. I no longer want it because even if I had it, people who came to see it would say "So, what is it?"

Supposedly it's a Rebel Cruiser from Episode 3, although I'm sure the rebellion wasn't in its infancy in that film.

I wonder if the title "Lego Master Builder" is a job description or just crazy hobbiest title.

All of you who are so surprised at the price must have missed all the huge banners that they put up; all of the money goes to Habitat for Humanity to help hurricane victims! This guy probably spent months building the thing, but he doesn't want a dime for it. THAT is the coolest thing about this. It's basically a donation with a prize. :)

Also, it's a Republic Attack Cruiser; that big behemoth you see in the very first scene of the original Star Wars movie, firing on the tiny ship with Leia in it. You can't get more iconic than that.

    - Felinoid

Okay, this just reeks of a 'geek-trap', but I *have* to take the bait:

No. The long...very long...omg when it going to end?!?...ship at the begining of Star Wars (aka A New Hope) is an *Imperial Star Destroyer* - from looking at the page, a) the superstructure for this thing is proportionally larger than an ISD, 2) the width-vs-length ratio is lower than an ISD C) the ISD is prominent in having two 'globes' ontop of its bridge/superstructure - shield generators that any rebel pilot will memorize :D and iv) this *REPUBLIC* Attack Cruiser has an AWFUL lot of red on it, where an ISD is uniformly grey. (I would imagine this ship was similar to the ones at the space battle in orbit around Coruscant at the beginning of Episode III Revenge of the Sith )

And after firing up TIE Fighter again (gotta LOVE DosBox :) ) I think this is actually a VSD Victory class Star Destroyer; a smaller precursor to the ISD we all know and love - created in the last days of the Republic before it became the Empire.

/me now sits down and tries to figure how to get out of this Geek Trap...

EDIT: Right. I *hate* getting snared in this, but I just can't stop being a pedantic geek :p
Starwars Databank for the ISD states the length as 1600m.

The model is measured at 97 inches, and is at a scale of 1:466, so its 'full size' is just over forty-five THOUSAND inches, or approx 3766 feet; conversion put this at about 1148m - again smaller than an ISD...

EDIT2: Got it: Republic Attack Cruiser And at 1137m, I wasn't far off in my estimates :square:

Okay, Venator-class, not Victory, NYAH. :D

I'm really confused now. So it's not a Star Destroyer, but it looks a bit like one? Is that the summary of the post above?

And why do they call them "Star Destroyers" when they can't (to my knowledge)?

    1. Star Destroyer sounds uber cool.

    2. I believe it's for destroying star *systems*, not the star itself.

    3. And the buyer forgot to read the really tiny print: some assembly required. ;)

But that's the best part! So long as you've got instructions to go by, building a LEGO...thingy is the best part.

Actually it is only the stand that has to be assembled.

As for the charity aspect - that might have some impact on what one is willing to pay but even the income tax credit on a $30,000 donation would be worth a heck of a lot more than an eight foot long lego rebal cruiser in my mind.

Oh and as I said - and as they have claimed in the description - it is clearly not an Imperial Star Destroyer. It has some degree of resemblance to the Star Destroyer in the opening scene of A New Hope but it is clearly a defferent type of ship.

As a summary of the ship situation:

    Star Destroyer :thumb:
    Rebel Cruiser

    Legos = Lame

Big lego ship = Super lame. :p

Maybe if is was a Lego model of Sauron's tower, or something else related to LotR, then it would be less-lame...but Star Wars? :nono: :rolling:

    K'nex are better! :p

But HB, I think 'Tinker Toys' are suited more for people your age. :geezer:

So no, I will not take anything back. Legos and Star Wars are still LAME! :good: :rolling:

It's o.k Kitrax...I understand that some people don't have the manual dexterity to use leggo. And the technology of starwars can be a little ... difficult for certain individuals to grasp.... ;) :D :D

I wouldn't pay $32k for that, but maybe it's just me.
