An interesting point, Judas. Now I'll admit that I don't follow this kind of thing very closely, and that I'm quite the skeptic when it comes to claims of supernatural phenomena, but I do believe that things happen that we haven't yet discovered a rational, scientific explanation for. Will we ever? Maybe, maybe not. But I read a while back that science was considering adding several new senses to the traditional five: heat and cold were two, and I don't remember the others. They didn't quite fit in with the older categories. Maybe such sensitivities are a form of senses that are more developed in some than in others (ever hear of supertasters?), and haven't yet been named by science.

@chev: Your so-called "joke" would have been significantly funnier if you didn't have a long history of making such grossly chauvinistic statements in a wide variety of contexts, both serious and humorous. Here, it smacks of you claiming it to be a joke to cover yourself when readers were offended. Thank you for the blatant reminder of why I stopped reading anything you have to say. Don't bother responding to me, either here or in PM, because I'm returning to that policy immediately.

Certainly it would; but it would be an incredible coincidence for that memory to be triggered at the same time as Mrs. Smith's passing. But as I said in my first post, I am far from convinced that there is not a "reasonable" explanation here - I just haven't come up with one yet (not that I've spent a lot of time trying).

Anyway, Apeman, you are of course entitled to your opinion, and I apologise if I came off a bit "snippy" before. But please refrain from suggesting that you're at the upper end of rational people here; I'm happy just to call you rational, and leave it at that, without trying to draw comparisons to other SP members. :)

Judas -- I agree with much of what you say, but differ on 2 points:

    1. From my experience ESP/premonitions, etc., it's not something that I can call up "on demand". It just IS...it comes out of nowhere with no warning and not in any kind of regular pattern.

    2. As far as dreams go....I agree that MOST dreams are of the nature you describe, where events are patterned on some RL association, just worked out in the subconscious. However, a distinction needs to be made from a different type of dream, where future EVENTS are chronicled in sequence -- specific events that do indeed occur upon waking. This is different I think....particularly when the events involve people you don't know, places you've never been and disasters that occur out of the blue. It's almost like a perceived tear in the weave of things, that somehow some individuals sense. I don't really understand it....it's just my take on it. It's almost like how people react prior to an earthquake....it's been documented how animals feel the seismic disturbances quite a few minutes before an impending earthquake....I've seen this with my own eyes in my cat's behavior. And it's pretty well known that some people can feel these disturbances as well (irritability, uneasiness, etc.) I use this example as an analogy -- the fact that there is scientific evidence of the latter example, by no means suggests there is scientific evidence of the former (I'm not comparing them tit for tat)-- it was just the closest association I could think of to describe what I was trying to get at.

It is all about perception. Whether you call it ESP, visions, spiritual insights, chemical reactions or whatever, whether it is scientifically based or completely free of reason and intellect is insignificant. Those words just show that people here are not talking in the same language, maybe not even about the same thing.

Point is: whatever you call those experiences, you can't control them. You can't switch your premonitions on and off, you can't influence your dreams to reveal a part of the future. They certainly aren't repetitive in a controlled, scientific way.

So, apart from being scared or mollified by oneself, what is the use of those phenomena? They certainly are a lot less dependable than even the weather forecast. Would you live by them? Nah! They are - in most if not all cases - completely useless. What a waste!

Those of us that experienced "empathic link" phenomena: it is our civic duty to explore our special abilities and see the pattern behind them! Help those who are by inability or ignorance cut off from their additional senses.

Research your skills with adequate means and please: do share.
