Well personally I'm more of a lager drinker myself. I like Stella Artois, or as we call it in England "Wife beater". Also Carlsberg Export.

You can't stand Sam Adams but drink CORONA??? WTF, K (military speak ... whiskey tango foxtrot, over)? Corona is nearly indistinguishable from MGD. And LIME??? Please, as the label says, drink responsibly. The only thing that should be added to beer is whiskey (although tequila in a Mexican beer is not bad ... I tried Cuervo Gold in a Tecate on Cinco de Mayo).

At least choose a good beer from Mexico ... Dos Equis Amber.

LOL, exactly! It's like Smirnoff ice or something. It might serve it's purpose when you're already drunk, but I prefer good beer... :p

Generally I think that Mexican beers are stale and unimpressive stuff - with really nice labels. Corona? Yuck! It's better than Bud or Heinecken, but then, what isn't?

Anyway, I changed my mind about Mexican beers somewhat during a holiday in Yucatan - in that near tropical climate, that sort if beer is actually very refreshing. My favourite there was a dark beer, Leon Negra. Nice stuff that.

Pitted against German or Bohemian beers in central European climate Mexican beer loses out every time.

A good schnapps goes down well with beer. Some of the guys from my highschool invented what they called a "Submarine" on a skiing holiday in Austria: You sink a schnapps into a half-litre jar of beer, and you can hardly taste it but the beer works better.

Of course this also led to one or two close encounters with the Austrian Polizei... :shake:

I rather that they stole it in Austria and then claimed to have invented it. I know of such combinations for a very long time, and wisely avoid them.

Not so. I let a winsome temptress provide me with a sample of Budweiser Light. When they sent another one to tempt me in my local I knew better. Begone foul wench I did say.

What kind of schnapps? I'm a huge fan of ICE 101...but that sounds like a terrible thing to add to a glass of beer.

I'm not a fan of the whole dropping a shot of alcohol in to another beverage thing. That includes Jager Bombs. When we're all in agreement that everyone is doing Jager Bombs at a bar/party, I take the Jager straight. :yum:

    #1 name: Rolling Rock
#2 brewery: Newark, NJ by Anheuser–Busch InBev. Pre-sale in 2006= Latrobe, Penn by Latrobe Brewing Co.
    #3 type: Pale Lager
    #4 color: Light golden
#5 foam: a bit above average
#6 scent: beerish :p... light and a little sweet. floral almost.
#7 taste: No bitterness at all, sweet for a lager, (VERY) light corn flavor as well.
    #8 voltage: a meager 4.6%
#9 notes in the margin: If it is very cold, it is smooth and refreshing. Great beer if you're just relaxing outside with some friends. Other than that, not a lot of character to just drink at home.

    I tried :p

My issue with these combinations of drinks is that by definition they are designed to get you trollied more quickly. Personally, I don't drink with the sole intention of getting drunk, I just like a cold refreshing beer. Altering its chemical make-up so it puts you on your ass faster means you can drink less, and therefore is a bad thing.

    Another one:
Above average. I kinda like it.

I had that beer in October and liked it. Last week I happened to spot the two last remaining bottles in the shop and promptly secured them for ... study.

    #1 name: Yuengling Lager
    #2 brewery: Pottsville, Pennsylvania
    #3 type: American Amber/Red Lager
    #4 color: Dark Golden/Light Amber
    #5 foam: Fades quickly
#6 scent: Wheat, but not a lot.
#7 taste: Wheaty, but again, not alot. A nice everyday beer.
    #8 voltage: a weak 4.4
#9 notes in the margin: A good overall American Lager, not overwhelming in any aspect, but not great either. Better than the average American beer, especially the big-branded names of yuckyness, Miller, Bud, etc....

Why does everyone hate regular American beer so much? Sure it's not great, but sometimes you just want a beer, not a gourmet alcoholic experience ...

That said, as has been reported elsewhere, I like Samuel Adams - both the regular lager and Boston Ale are good imo. :)

Gaear, I don't "hate" American beers, but I think Bud and Miller taste like bilgewater. I will "suffer" through a night of drinking them if I have to.:) As I have said before, I get stuck swilling down some Old Style and some LaCrosse with my father-in-law. You gotta do what you gotta do!:D To me, it's all about the hangover the next day as well. Amstel Light and Yuengling are to me great-tasting, buzz-giving, non-hangover beers. Thumbs up! Bud on the other hand gives me both a nasty hangover and the drizzles/swampbutt. Nasty stuff is Bud.

What's regular in America mightn't be regular elsewhere. Sam Adams is priced as a gourmet alcoholic experience over here if you can find it. I think I tried it once and it was grand but I didn't think it was worth paying for over a regular beer.

When I hear American beer I immediately think of Bud, as that is the one that is part of the five drinks taps that will be found in every pub. And Bud is awful. Miller and Coors Light are reasonably available and are perfectly fine. But for regular beer I'd go for Heineken or Carlsberg.

I bought a 12-pack of Dos Equis...and I agree, it is better than Corona.

Déise - what kind of Sam Adams have you tried? I've tried 9 of them, and only 2 were bearable enough to finish. :nolike:

Here's another one that I had yesterday evening:
The beer is, well, ok. I like to have one occasionally - even though it is streamlined to appeal to a widest possible range of consumers and thus somewhat lacks character.

I went to that Russian pub yesterday, and this is the source of today's misery ...
Grade: It's ... ok, sort of.

Personal conclusion: I ought to have ordered a few vodka shots instead (the bar has some 50+ brands).

You seem to be out drinking a lot of beer mate.

I just bought six crates of canned Tuborg Green. Bottled Green Tuborg is ambrosia on a warm summer day but the cans work too. I am generally a light lager man with the rare foray into "real" beer territory.

I haven't had any beer in two days. I had buttermilk with cranberry juice instead :xx: and probably will today as well. But there's a cool beer waiting in the fridge, so I retain the option. Good bavarian Augustiner Helles ... :yum:
