It's not that hard to level in diablo 2 though - you can easily get a character to lvl 70 in a single day with the LoD expantion.
Power leveling was an extremely common thing to do on the ladder back when i still played, there were always tristram/tal rasha tombs/chaos sanctuary and baal runs available - i imagine this is much less the case nowadays with the age of the game though.

Like i said, if you're leveling solo or with 2-3 people, it's going to take longer - but being in an 8 man game and optimizing your exp gains helps a lot.
The ultimate leveling cheese was to have 2 cd-keys (or a friend) and having a high level enchantress + the ravenclaw bow on your leveling character.

The ravenclaw bow allows you to fire explosive arrows, and being buffed by even just a decent enchantress could give you 800-1000 damage per shot as soon as you hit lvl 15 (level requirement for the bow.)
the whole reason for having explosive arrow from the unique bow is to make that damage behave like an area of effect attack.

a good enchantress only needs 20 points in warmth, 20 in enchant and 20 in fire mastery, as well as teleport for utility (mostly so you can quickly grab wirt's leg so you can open the cow level.)
there's also some relly easy to get low level items that give increases to sorceress (fire) skills that boost the damage even higher, like the tarnhelm (helm +1), sigon's guard (shield +1), silks of the victor (armor +1) hellplague (long sword +2) for an easy +5, completing the build at 52-55 (depending on how many of the quest related skill points you pick up in each act.)
This boosts the enchant skill to grand 851-1068 damage per attack.

this way you could join an 8-player game (usually a random game where people were doing quests in another act) and solo the horadric tombs easily up to lvl 20, then get your 2nd account/friend to open up the cow levels for you, so you could solo that to 25.
starting from lvl 25 you can defeat the ancients and start doing baal runs till lvl 40 - get rushed through nightmare, then do baal runs again untill lv 60, then get rushed through hell difficulty and do chaos runs/baal runs until you hit your desired level.
