Yup. Depends on what type of game you are after to play. At current moment, I'm playing with 6 diff classes (and I enjoy playing that way because you get to see them grow). It's custom made party:

Kensai (main, pure fighter, human, AC 4-argh)
    Barbarian (half-orc, 19 str, con)
Monk (waiting for lvl 20 $$)
    Sorcerer (human, very low hp)
Priest of Lethander (human, can be boosted if needed)
    Assasin (elf, short bow, backstab)

And so far it's been going all good, I managed to get my hands of Staff of Magi, with these ppl, all lvl around 11, and totally wrong magic for sorcerer on lower levels(next time, next time).

I've made some plans for my next game that should be something like this (don't have idea about races yet):

Archer (main, I read paladin stronghold is not that good)
Paladin (for 2-handed swords, have none current game)
Berserker (dwarfen prolly, but thinking about some other kits as well)
Kensai/mage (have to try that one)
Swashbuckler/cleric (got it of SP $$)
Sorcerer (with diff set of magic) - or mage dunno yet.

So to answer your q: no favorite type of party :)

    Edit: ew, old one

[IMG] I prefer parties with many tanks. The actual one is:

Elven Fighter (from BGI, 19 Str and Dex, LG)
Minsc (Good Fighter, some spells, very very funny)
Keldorn (Gauntlets of Ogre Power + Carsormyr, wow!)
Sir Anomen (Healing and nice backup Fighter)
    Imoen (Mage and Thief)
    Aerie (Backup Mage and Cleric)

    For a all new party:

    Kensai/Mage
    Berserker
    Inquisitor
    Illusionist/Thief
    Mage or Sorcerer
    Cleric

    Monk: fists
    Cavalier: Two-Handed Weapons
Barbarian/Cleric: Dual wielding war hammer and flail
    Assassin: Short bow

I like to go with a fairly fighter heavy party, I only have one person that cant tank efficiently. heres my party layout right now:

FenixStrife - Kensai dualed to theif at level 12, imported from BG1 and so has great stats cause of tomes. best HP and thac0 in my party. Dual-weilding Celestial fury and some +3 long sword (the name escapes me)

Keldorn - Inquisitor, wonderfull fighter with carsomyr and gloves of dex. Also has really cool special abilities

Minsc - Ranger, nice 2H sword tank, (I love 2h swords) currently weilding lilarcor, switching to warblade +4 or silver sword when I leave the underdark.

Anomen - Fighter=>Cleric, good spell support and can actually get hit with a flying twig and survive (unlike viccy). Also isnt quite as annoying once he turns lawfull good. dual-weilding hammer of thunderbolts and flail of the ages. will switch to crom fayer once out of underdark.

Belgareth - sorcerer, main spell support, I had to create my game in multi and drag it over to single to get him in. weilding the staff of rynn and the +5 sling with unlim bullets. but the main thing that affects his dammage dealing potential is the robe of vecna, gotta love the fast casting. (I created this char cause I dont like any of the in-game mages)

My favourite party so far is not the best one I've played, but the funniest.

Berserker/Druid (Me, using spears and generally rockin')
Anomen (for the clerical stuff, using hammers, flails and slings)
Jaheira (great tank with a girdle of giant strength)
    Jan (spellcasting, thievery and turnips)
Haer'dalis (every class save priest in the same character)

All are good spellcasters of some kind, all but Anomen can cast stoneskin and all but Jan are good fighters.

He is probably referring to dragging and dropping the Save game directory over to the MPS Save game diretory using Windows Explorer - or vice versa...

Also, in multiplayer, you can directly import charcters from other games.

It really depends on your lvl, for example, at lower levels fighters kick ass. at later levels shit like Monks do serious damage.

    Monk
    Mage
    Thief/Mage/archer
    Fighter/Cleric
    Fighter/mage
Cleric/Mage or vice versa (and yes, it does make a huge difference which comes first)

I'm quite new for the game, and haven't had time to explore all the possibilities, but this is my current party, and I think I will stick to it, because I have a concurrent romances-patch running... 'tis fun...

    Fighter/Mage/Thief (me)
    Bounty Hunter (Yoshimo)
    Thief/Mage (Nalia)
    Mage/Cleric (Aerie)
    Fighter/Druid (Jaheira)
    Fighter/Cleric (Amoen)

I like to have lots and lots of spells because they're cool, and I also like characyers who can do damage physically. My own character had the infamous armor problem, too...

Can't go wrong with this party

    Fighter/mage
    Fighter/mage/thief
    Fighter/mage/cleric
    Ranger/Cleric
    Fighter/druid
    Fighter/thief

Best thing about this party is that everyone is a fighter, and a spellcaster, except the F/T. Meaning they all get tons of hit points.

This gives me a total of
    5 fighters
    1 ranger
    2 thieves
    3 mages
    3 healers

    Here's my current party:
    :borg: Dwarf F/C (tank)
 Human Monk (find traps, fast scout, average fighter)
:book: Half-Elf C/M (magic, magic and more magic)
:money: Halfling F/T (high pick pockets & open locks skills - he finances the party and dual wields swords, decent fighter)

This leaves two slots free for NPCs so I can do the side quests.
Jan Jansen is a regular because this guy is FUNNY!
The current other NPC is Aerie since we have just rescued her. I think she'll get the boot soon because I'm already getting sick of her wimpy attitude. :toofar:

I find this lineup works well for me.

i always play single player so i get all the side quests and then use sk to change the npc's class races and abilities but only enough so that its the same as the character types lvl, so my current faverite party type is,

    kensai/mage
kensai/thief(at higher levels i've done 350+hd with this one)
    berserker/mage
    cleric/mage
    sorcerer
barbarian(they get tons of hp and there rage abilty makes up for not going past 2 ability points with weapons and their weapon resistances counter their disadvantage with armor)

with boots of speed the kensai thief becomes a good scout capable of doing lots of damage and setting traps the kensai/mage and berserker/mage are good spell caster support and are effective toe to toe bashers even better with stone skin mirror image and fire sheild :) the cleric/mage can attack with ranged weapons with the kensai/thief heal the group and add even more casting power and the barbarian and sorcerer are thier to make sure that theirs always at least one powerful fighter and spell caster at all times so thats my idea of a perfect party as they've all got their uses
