    I think Barmy's point is that many Englishmen are glad to see Blair go. You have to consider that his party has just lost some 400+ seats across England. You also have to consider that it is a mirror-image of what is happening here in the US with Bush. Just yesterday a group of Republican Congressmen walked over to the White House to let Bush know that he is wrecking the Republican party over the Iraq war. They let him know that he has no credibility and that anymore assessments regarding the war's progress would have to come from someone else. In fact, one congressman told Bush that his approval rating in his district was a measly five percent! :eek: Amazing how repugnant people are feeling towards this war - on both sides of the pond.

    I don't think Blair was THAT bad, especially compared to some of our other leaders coughthatchercough, but he made a serious mistake as far as the war is concerned. Calling him a "murderer" is a bit harsh as well. Past PMs have done worse (I wouldn't say the Falklands was worse by any means, but it was even more pointless than this one).

    I'd rather not contribute to a derail, but I think the welfare state has done more good than harm in my opinion, at least in theory, especially since it appears to decrease the rate of property crime.
