Enchantment sucks hard as once the victims make their save (which is a sure thing in HOF BTW), they are totally unaffected.

However evocation and most necro spells still do some damage even the victim makes a saving throw.

I don't recall any enchantment spells being effective in this battle, but I've had plenty of success with enchantment spells elsewhere. In particular, area effect enchanting spells are awesome in HOF, since monsters have those huge Fort saves, but unchanged Will saves. And area effect enchanting spells are better than single target ones because as you say, they are essentially pass/fail spells. Against one target, it's all or nothing. But cast some area effect spell like Chaos, or Symbol of Hopelessness or Greater Command or Mass Dominate, you are almost guaranteed to enchant a good chunk of the enemies in the area of effect.

And the thing with the better enchanting spells is that once you've enchanted the targets, they are completely out of the picture until the spell expires or is dispelled.

But, as you say, enchanting spells seem pretty useless in this particular battle. Oh well. ;)

I'm not sure, but the bad guys in this battle might count as undead, in which case they are immune to enchantments.
