    Because churches are political institutions.

    They make laws, they tell people what to do, they govern countries, they start revolutions, they establish theocracies, they drown followers of faiths competiting with them in rivers. The church in case crowns kings and queens. Kings and queens are sworn to protect them. They ally themselves with rulers. They shape the hearts and minds of people, set a set of rules for them, which they then try to transfer to other people. (All aimed at protestants)

    I wonder, what will happen, if the next pope (what I personally hope) will be latin-american jesuit ? That will be an earthquake, I am quite sure of it.

    In case, the bible is quoted to rule the lives of real, living and breathing people. How can that not be political ? Laws are shaped after religious convictions still today. Be it good or bad. But it's the case.

    Or in how many actualy political questions is the bible quoted ? How many times is the good old law of Hammurabi quoted, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
