Little else to add, Ilmater's Suffering put it about as detailed as it gets :)

So as long as you can keep the situation there, you can sneak attack to your hearts content. It is awesome if you have a combat oriented group (Once again you can see this in ToEE, which is the best implementation of D&D 3.5 (or 3.0 for that matter) I have yet seen) Where you can manuver a couple of fighters around to flank anyone you want to die, and letting your Rogue (preferablly with a longspear) do sneak attacks with a nice flank bonus of +2 to hit to boot.

Awesome to sneak up to enemy spellcaster, start with an attack (thus netting you the suprise round before round 1) where you get a free attack on the flatfooted enemy spellcaster, then in round 1 with high dexterity and improved initiative you are more likelly than not to go first again, thus netting you a couple of free attacks against the spellcaster whom is still flatfooted.

A level 20 rogue could get in 4 attacks this way, even when discounting the normal damage of weapon and strength and criticals etc, this is +40D6 sneakattack damage over a single turn. no saving throw, know of many mages that can survive that ?

Boccob, Wee Jas, Orcus and Mephistopheles :D . But then again 820 hp for Boccob and Wee Jas, 758 hp for Orcus and 513 hp for Mephistopheles can stand up to alot.

Monks have the Stunning Fist ability, and a Ring of Blinking, while active, will make your opponent flat footed against your attacks, but give you a 20% miss chance...

Silvershield, as an example: Last week's game, a minotaur charged our bard. My fighter/rogue moved into a flanking position and unleashed 4 deadly attacks (he has improved 2weapon fighting), all sneaks because of the mino's flatfootedness due to being flanked.

It was utter slaughter, despite being in an antimagic zone :) 4d6+4+12d6 damage to the kidneys, yikes.

Point is, never ever get flanked by a (or gods forbid, two) rogue.

Yeah. In the RPGA I had a 10th level Rogue. My pet peeve was all the freaking undead and Constructs ot things that can't be sneak attacked we saw. I think they were screwing Rogues. Mind you I'd like a crack at the Underdark with a High power Rogue that can see down there...

There are a few ways to overcome the problem, but they usually involve spellcasting. Anyway, IS, your quote is technically right but there's a small problem with it. Bet you two cents the PHB doesn't spell it "rouge" :p ?

Killing off an entire party because they didn't have a rogue? That's unfair.

Our party at the moment has no cleric. The closest thing we have to a healer is a bard. On top of that, his level adjustment means he's 4 levels behind the party. We survive, though, by being careful and finding other ways of doing things.

You should let your players do the same.
