One of my Dad's Employee whose last name was " Paindavoine" in fact it mean "Bread of oats" in French, well if you spell it Pain d'avoine...


@ Morningstar: BTW Eugène, "was" common in french. My Last name is " Forget " I know in english it has a real meaning, but not in French, hey you "should" pronounce it " For-jay " It's just a matter of Culture...

 

My grandfather was saddled with the name James Leroy. Leroy. What a name. So what did he do? He named his tiny little son James Leroy Jr. My uncle has never forgiven him.
Eustace it pretty bad. My great-grandmother is Hedwig Frances, and I pity her immensely. Oh, and Virgil. Virgil is about as geeky as they come.

What's so geeky about Stewarts?

Explanation: Stuart is exactly the same name as Stewart, only the spelling is younger (16th century) and Frenchified. The meaning is what steward used to mean and it's sort of major-domo or bailie. Basically, Stewards held the office of Lord Stewart of Scotland before they made it to the throne in 1317.

There's quite a lot of genuine Stewarts, but they just share some ancestors with the royal Stewart/Stuart line and therefore have no title at all. Some are even descended from earlier Stuart kings (before James VI/I became the king of England in 1603), but in Scottish or English system the status of prince isn't hereditary, it's just given to up to grandchildren of a monarch in legitimate male line, so those Stewarts are plain 'misters' too.

So, will someone tell me what's geeky in this name? Apart from the obvious fact that making names after surnames is morbid.

The geekiest Greek name is Sultana.

I knew a guy whose last name was Scuds. His daughter was called Amber.

I heard of a nurse whose family name was Rubberneck.

And I kid you not, but the "worstest" name I ever heard of was a family name "Clitoris" with the emphasis on the second syllable.

There was a girl down the street called "Skylene".

My sister new a mother who had two sons called "Conan" and "Rambo". (How sad if they grew up to be very feminine...)

Clutterbuck and Cockburn are fairly sad last names...

 

I can only think about italian names, but if you try to read them in english they would probably sound funny anyway:

About funny combinations of first and last names: once I found on written on Milan's yellow pages "Generoso Bocchino", which translated means "Generous Bl#wjob"!!!! And you were talking about allowed parents killing...

Hmmm...yes. This could be true. But there are so many Greek names used in English, and thus they change a bit, that I thought Virginia could be a Greek name.
