    It might amuse you to learn that 'fidiciary' is also used in the physical sciences. I attended several talks in which people speak about 'fiduciary volume' of a detector. This means the volume which is actually useful for the measurement (i think, at least :) ). Couple of times the speaker was asked what exactly does 'fiduciary' means, and usually he was not able to give a clear explanation :)

    Heh, one learns a little every day, on SP :p
    I think I've heard the word fiduciary somewhere before, but didn't know what it meant; the word gravamen I had never before heard - so there.

    Hehe, personally, I've never encountered those words too. But dictionary.com says...

    fiduciary and gravamen.

    Fiduciary is legal jargon. It describes the obligations that often exist between a trust holder and trustee, other relationships as well. Fiduciary obligations involve acting for the benefit of and in the best interests of the beneficiary.
