I know this is probably a stupid question, but can't you order stuff in the net and have it mailed to you in Turkey, or are there restrictions as to what you can receive? I am very ignorant in this area.

^I am ignorant too. :( One of my friends was interested in buying games via internet, but even he couldn't find a way to do it, I guess net-sellers do not send stuff here...

There isn't any reason someone form the USA couldn't mail it to you is there?

I don't think there is a reason but I have never done international mailing stuff and I worry if it can be problem-free. SOmetimes, unexpected things may happen and the thing may never reach me!..well, I don'T know. I really don'T know! :wail:

Some private sellers do ship worldwide, or perhaps you can find a seller closer to home? It's a shame if you can't get ahold of it, it's really a very good game (better than BG2 in some ways, I think). But it's cheap as chips these days, anyway, so it's not too great a risk.

I've legally bought BG2 + ToB for something about 12E... but afaik, in Turkey buying anything other than newspaper might be a problem :/.

    Anyway, good luck.

    HEY! Update!

My friend has finally started playing BG2, and he is having fun! Reall! He does not seem to caring about the graphics now!

He initially started as a Berserker, then re-started as a Cavalier. He likes fighting and to tell you the truth he knows little as far as spell casting goes, so I think he has made a fine choice.

He is already in Chapter2, and was last in the Sewers below CC, looking for the clues for the 'Pipe' puzzle. Well I gave him a clue and he will get Lilarcor, guess he will appreciate it, till he gets Carsomyr at least, I am positive that he can! He is more resourceful than I initially thought!

He has Jaheira, Minsc, Aerie,Yoshimo and Nalia. Though I told him 'Not to stick around with Yoshi too much, he is...err he is weak.', you see I tried to warn him without spoilers, but he said Yoshi was COOL. Well, he knows the best.

He really likes the game and asks me tons of questions, 'what to do next, where to go, which NPC to take, am I missing a quest, what does this spell do?' ahh it is soo fun to teach him something new about the game, everyday.

I hope he learns how to use spells effectively soon.

He has done first dungeon, Circus and Slaver quests now and will tackle Nalia's ford. Hope all goes well!

What really suprises me is that he immediately gets his own ideas about the NPCs. He thinks:

    Minsc is funny and useful.
Jaheira is totally useless and kinda annoying(this is the only comment I disagree)
    Yoshimo is cool.
Anomen is a total jerk :shake:
Aerie is cute and useful but too whiny.
    Nalia is a TERRIBLE thief.

Well somethings are universal I guess.
    YAY!

Work him into the spells slowly. Start him out with the most easily useful ones like Knock and Fireball and such. Then start working him into the others and I bet he'll really get into the magic side of things. Even with his liking the fighting.

You might teach him a little about the The Paladin Stronghold though. So he can start working towards that. Since he is one. Maybe warn him not to kill Firkraag right away. (That's a mistake I made a few times as a Paladin before I learned.)

It's not bad keeping Yoshi. This way he'll gain far more XP since thieving XP is level-dependent.
He can also gain extra XP after Spellhold. Every other choice for a temporary 6th party member is worse.
It doesn't feel good leaving Imoen or someone else behind in Spellhold just because the party is full.
Your friend should better kick out Nalia after getting the reward for her quest than Yoshi, Imoen and Aerie have enough mage power, more mages will only be annoying.

Maybe you should tell your friend to free Imoen as fast as possible instead.(after getting the girdle of hill giant strength, Carsomyr, the quarterstaff+4 and a few important mage spells for Aerie of course)

Good to hear you got your friend to play, despite the "bad graphics" :D
Anyways, easiest way for me to learn magic was the hard one, my first playtrough was with sorcerers, didn't have any problems thought.

Don't give away too many spoilers for first-timers. That would be my biggest advice. You only get to play the game for the first time once.

I have a friend that initially got me into BG, he saw me reading D&D books and suggested that I try the game out. He said that he had it, and it was awesome. So I got it and started playing and then bought BG2, IWD, and IWD2. When I started talking about the game he then tells me that he never played BG past the FAI, and never got farther than just outside of the Dnugeon in BG2. So now I am trying to talk the guy who got me playing into playing through himself. Isn't life weird?

Chapter 2 is a dangerous place in terms of losing interest - I'm sure we all know how many times we've restarted the game before getting past Chapter 2. ;)

Don't make him do all the quests, and he can powergame later. If he shows signs of losing motivation, or forgetting about the big picture, maybe it's time to move on.

[IMG] Bah! Why spoil him at all? < :geezer: > When I started playing nobody told me what was going to happen and I turned out fine!</ :geezer: >

Then again, trying to get my mother into the game was equal parts amusing and infuriating. She got stuck in the tutorial.

Shame about the BG1 though, would be amusing to see his reaction to those graphics :thumb:

And get him to sign up here if he likes the game! :D

I start all the games I intend to play at one point and save them in the prologue parts. I play lots of games at one time. :)

Well my friend already knows SP, and raided this place for patch, extra portraits, soundsets, and...unfourtunately walkthroughs!

I warn himm NOT to read a walkthrough unless really, realy badly stuck, but he says 'I need to do the all quests in my first run' for some reason, so he looks for quests, but luckily not for solutions (or so he says). I question his logic and tell him that 'you don't need to do everything in your first run. This is the charm of the game, on your next, more experienced run you can discover new stuff!' hope he listens to me...

You can tell your friend that the game is big and there are many chances to make mistakes and he'll have made hundreds of them at the end of the game.

You can tell him that's a far greater achievement to beat the game without reading what he has to do before, then playing with a walkthrough and doing every subquest.

He could as well use a video walkthrough and redo the shown actions.
Any 8 year old kid could do this.

It's not unnormal to finish a game without having done everything, it's unnormal to do every quest and gain everything possible.
So the characters will get far too many XP and far too powerful items.

This way he only cheats the game difficulty down to very easy since the game difficulty isn't balanced for such experienced characters.

Maybe you can provoke his fighting spirit to try the game the hard way with this arguments.
But maybe it is even better not to do so. Your friend doesn't seem to be experienced with that kind of games and BG2 is probably too unfair for him playing it the hard way.
He might end up in frustration or massive cheese abuse.

He can try a game without walkthrough afterwards. There are other similar games out there.
