I've decided to go with 2 handed weapons on her.

At 9th level, she'll get her second pip in Quarterstaff.

At 12, her 1st in 2 handed weapons.

15 & 18 will get her Specialized in Spears. I figure (with a 4 person party) that'll be just in time for Ixil's Spike.

Of course, I could just go for Spears right from level 9 on, she's a decent fighter with a club and shield from the beginning of the game.

Just like Barmy, I tend to use the Blackblood/Belm combo throughout pretty much the entirity of SoA. By the time you get to ToB, there are obviously a ton more options that come into play. And while it's true that you don't have so many proficiency points that you can be wasteful with them, you do get an adequate amount if you plan them from the start.

I still haven't hit 9th level with her (where I'm determined to have made a choice), and it's a toss up between Blackblood & Belm or going for Ixil's Spike.

I'm definitely losing the shield at level 12 (where I'll have two stars in either Spear or Dual Wielding).

well, ixil's spike is an endgame weapon, so dual wield for you i guess

by the way ,do you receive extra attacks during whirlwind if you dualwield?

Nope - whirlwind *sets* the number of attacks per round to 10. You would be in fact better off dropping your offhand weapon for the duration because you'll have a better chance of hitting (no offhand THAC0 penalty) and will probably have greater damage potential (main hand weapons tend to be more highly enchanted than offhand ones). It's kind of inconvenient though, so I tend to attack with both.
