I know the feeling.

I voted over 30, that's because I stopped counting at 34 a few years ago. I visit my dentist several times a year of which the most time goes to treatment of whatnot.

So far:

>34 cavities
5 extractions
3 or 4 root canals

Medical treatment when I was a child caused bad teeth. I'm very carefull with my teeth, brushing 2 times a day with an expensive sonic tooth brush, picking my teeth after everything I eat and don't mix up sweet and sour when eating or drinking. It had some effect, especially for my gums which are reasonably healthy the last few years.

I'm seriously jealous at people who don't have problems with their teeth.

 

Never had a filling in my life, well I had one once in a milk tooth. I am trying to find a dentist to check up on it though cause I havent in a few years as I got tired of spending 60€ on hearing someone say that everything is fine.

 

None yet. I'm supposed to get my teeth capped because my molars are too deep where they formed funny, but at least I have the enamel, lol.

Not been to a dentist in years though. Will have to save up and go private

 

I had my first filling in 2001. Followed by my second in 2004. In 2008 I had my first crown. All of this is on the same tooth by the way. In 2009 I had a route canal (different tooth) and a crown for that tooth. In 2010 I had 6 more fillings.

I didn't have any cavities or issue with my teeth until I was in my 20's. Only recently have I had issues and now floss my teeth at least once a day if not twice and I brush them at least twice if not 3-4 times a day.

My daughter who is only 5 already has had 1 cavity. I now make sure she flosses and brushes at least 2x a day.

 

I've had quite a few in my lifetime, due to a birth defect that left very thin enamel on my bicuspids and molars.
Since the poll was only about fillings, I did not count my implant, root canal or two crowns.

Just got back from the dentist. £1100 work apparently needed.

Tempted to follow my dad's example - don't think he's been since he was about 10

 

Yeah, if you wait long enough the only option is tooth extraction. That's actually pretty cheap. Then the problem arises that you're missing teeth. That's when it starts to get expensive again with partials and dentures. Its ok if you're just missing a few teeth though

Well, fillings, none, but I've got a crown on one of my back teeth, a gold one, bling bling!

 

36 and nary a cavity to be seen. Although, my dentist does tell me that I brush too hard and so my gums have receded a bit, resulting in tooth sensitivity to cold. Although my next checkup is Wednesday, so I may have to edit then...

 

I hunt down and devour a raw deer every morning. Bones and all. Keeps my teeth healthy!


On a serious note, i think i've had 3... around 15 years ago. I haven't been to the dentist since. Seems like ignoring them actually works!
Brushing once a day, too lazy to do it in the morning. I also have a very healthy diet (out of convenience really, it's harder to eat unhealthy than healthy where i currently live) which is basically caveman at this time of year. I'm hungry, i just go out and forage something. That takes care of about 3/4 of food eaten. Plus, my family doesn't have a history of bad teeth so i'm guessing i'm pretty lucky. Good genes are sure handy in teeth department.

 

My family has spent quite a bit of my mouth over the course of my life time. I spent about $3500-4000 in the past 2 years. Prior to that my mom invested about 3500-4000 on braces. My grandparents paid 1200 for my retainer when I was younger to have my jaw realigned. I believe I have close to if not over $10K invested in my mouth.

 

I've never had any type of oral treatment unless you count the sort that can only be discussed in MUG

Seriously though, my teeth are indestructible.

 

I have had a few fillings in my time, have had some teeth removed... forcefully but hey.

 

To the best of my knowledge I have three or four. I've had two that were poorly done and had to be redone later by another dentist, but nothing recently.

 

I haven't been to the dentist in ages, the last time I went the guy told me I had 3 new cavities, but I think he was pulling my leg since it has been a year since he told me that and I haven't felt anything... It was quite amazing that while my previous dentist never found anything, this guy found so many cavities that he has managed to move into a new building with high-tech equipment, expensive hardwood floors and cute staff. I'm just saying.

 

Well, that's the problem right there. Milk contains calcium, which is essential for bone and tooth integrity. But milk also contains a huge amount of lactose, which is a fermentable sugar. A whopping *fourteen grams* of lactose (ie. sugar) is in one serve (250mL) of milk.

Every time you drink milk (or eat any sort of fermentable sugar/carbohydrate), the resident bacteria in your mouth convert those sugars to acid, which then weakens the enamel in your teeth, eventually causing decay. Saliva helps neutralise the acid, but it takes time to restore balance. Brushing really doesn't help much in such instances, since acid production occurs almost immediately.

This is probably why so many people get tooth decay, even when they brush diligently and don't 'eat' much solid sugar. Almost every Westerner drinks tea or coffee, which contains milk. If you drink four or five cups of white coffee a day, that's four to five times that the tooth is exposed to acid. And surprise surprise, it's the *frequency* of sugar intake, rather than amount, that correlates with decay. So drinking coffee/tea throughout the day is much worse than having a chocolate bar at meal time.

My teeth are a mess.Back in 91 I was mugged.Took a lead pipe to the face,damaging all of my teeth in one fell swoop.Considering I survived at all...I can live with the bad teeth.

For the morbidly curious,the top part of my jaw was shattered in three diffrent points.Three weeks in the hospital for that one.
