Agreed, it leaves a sickening feeling if you do hit something. However, (And I may be wrong) I believe in England that it is illegal to swerve to avoid an animal unless it's a dog. This may be limited to built-up area's as being of higher risk of hitting pedestrians. Regardless, I'm likely to swerve regardless

 

What if a deer runs in front of your car? (I'm assuming that there is some type of larger herbivore in relatively high numbers in England.) While I live in a populated area, we aren't THAT far from undeveloped areas, and as such seeing a deer around isn't all that uncommon. You can bet if a deer runs in front of my car, I'm going to swerve to miss it. Not only would I feel badly of killing an animal, but a deer can do a decent amount of damage to your vehicle - especially if you're driving on a highway at a decent rate of speed.

 

As I said, it may be limited to built-up areas. I've had the fun of being side-charged by a large stag, narrowly avoided by putting my foot down. My Dad has hit a sheep in the Forest of Dean (Sheep had right of way until they all were killed off during Foot & Mouth) causing a lot of damage to the car and rather more to the sheep.

 

You are not supposed to swerve or brake unless it is something really big like a moose or something with a large chance of killing or hurting you. The right thing to do is to just flatten that cat or bird or porcupine or whatever cause if not the car behind you might smash right into you or you swerve right into a big tree. Sorry kitty, I consider even the paint job on my car way more important than your life.

 

This is absurd. If anyone is so bitter as to consider shooting innocent cats that trespass his "property", the problem doesn't lie with the cat, but with the man.

What happend to tolerance? Killing someone's cat is just antisocial behaviour. And consider how much grief you could cause by killing a pet cat. If someone killed my cat on purpose I'd be quite sad, not just for the cat, but also for the society in which things like that are accepted.

cats are all wild cats, stray ones that we took in. They are not comfortable in the house and they consider the whole neighbourhood their home. Most of the people I know that want a cat do it the same way, they just start feeding cats that repeatedly come to their house.

Our neighbours have never complained, actually they even warned us when one of the kittens got stuck in a hedge.

Over here, anyone shooting something/someone when it is not for selfprotection is regarded as a danger to society.
