    [IMG] Crete, Schmete....It's in Venezuela! :p ;)

I'm familiar with your version...I was talking about a documentary on Discovery about the possibility of Atlantis being somewhere in the Mid-South Atlantic..."Just beyond the pillars of Hercules.." Which has always been thought to be the Straits of Gibraltar.

"Just beyond the pillars of Hercules", was also in Plato's Atlantean mythos as well. So Atlantis could be anywhere...Very possible in the atlantic ocean.

It could be off the coast of Venezuela.

Then again -- it could not. It could be some other ancient civilization, you know...there is no evidence either for or against that theory.

Bel, not everything the discovery channel sais is true! :D

    IIRC, isn't it America?

BTW, from everything I've read on research of the topic, Atlantis was in the English Channel somewhere. There was another island known as Brazil or Brasil (not the country) that sunk off the coast of South America, and a third one in the Mediterranean, but I can't think of its name atm.

Interesting...I wonder if it ever existed. I mean, if it did, people ought to find interesting stuff they made by now.

In addition to my friend's theroy: That might be why the Titanic sank.

    About the Gibaltar-comment:
I remember people saying that Atlantis was somewhere near the Canaru Isles (sp). Could be anywhere though.

Maybe we should all watch the Disney movie, I'm sure we will learn wise things then. Don't they broadcast that on National Geographic?

Actually Atlantis is just the netherlands in disguise! As Antlantis sank we just put dykes around it and kept on living there. But when it became a big hype we just invented an aka Netherlands (meaning low lands). The people around us are just way too stupid to notice this pun! ;)

But more serious, there are several options for a mythical atlantis. One is that atlantis is somewhere under the ice of Antartica. Some maps have been found in the middle ages where Antartica was filled in as a country. in the 1960's or so scientist were able to check the outline of Antartica and it almost exactly matched the old maps.
